Cowardly Vandals Tip Over Tombstones

Lower Grimes Cemetery Damaged
Between August 10 and August 17th, some cowardly vandals with no respect for the memory of the persons buried there, tipped over approximately 8 tombstones in the Lower Grimes Cemetery, near Port Allegany, PA.

Anyone who has any information on this senseless destruction is encouraged to contact PSP Kane at 814-778-5555. Trooper Nelson is the investigator.

these ignorant people whoever done it should be stripped of their pride possession and watch it be destroyed infront of them. Its complete ignorance to deface a memorial. then pay the penalty fees. Seriously tombstones are put in place to remember the passing of one, so people can have a memory even if they never had any other memories of these people.

I agree with the previous poster. A while back when i was younger, I remember a very like incident that happened in two cemetery's in Port Alleghany.

It is really sad when people do not have anything else to do.The punishment is not harsh enough. There should be jail time& some years of mowing and cleaning up. It is not cheap to have a stone put back. I just did and it was $400.00.Just to have it put back on the foundation. Must be they never had a loved one die or else they have no heart. Do tyhey think they are BIG GUYS now .They are idiots in my book.

Why in the hell would anyone find thrills in doing this?? What possible reason would anyone have to do something so destructive. Yes, it is expensive to have the foundataions replaced for s stone.. I had to do my grandparents a few years back do to bad footers being poured and it was over 200.00 then.
The young people in this area are out of control!! Everyday you read about something that has happened such as this, or a camp broken in too, tires slashed, etc.. it is getting out of hand. Something needs to be done..
I agree with the poster that Jail time should be given to the actors that did this.. THEN make them resposible for paying for the stones AND make them mow and trim up there. I know the persons that take care of Ports 2 cemetaries and also Smethports.. and I know what a pain it is to mow around all those stones to get it looking nice for those who come to visit their deceased loved ones. It is kept nice out of respect for them. Maybe a couple of summers of mowing and trimming around those stones that they destroyed will change their attitiude!!!

Volunteers have repaired 6 of the stones and will do the rest soon.

Maybe their parents should be fined also. It's obvious that they have had no guidance or taught to have respect for other peoples property or the deceased. My kids are in their twenties, but if I found out that they did something like this- they would write written and public apologies to the families, as well as clean up the cemeteries. Then they would stand at their Grandmothers' grave and consider how they would feel if someone did that to her memorial!

I have a good idea for the perfect punishment... Go to this cemetary, dig a hole, get a vault / coffin , put these vandals in it & bury them... Dig it up & disrupt their grave & see how they like it...

Poster 12:26 - your comment is, at least, a little extreme!!!

I agree with 11:39 &12:26 except make them dig the hole and jump in it and give use the honors of filling it in. As far as their grandmother they can,t have any feelings or they would,t have done it in the first place.oh asfter we fill it in put the stone over it and see if they can lift it.

Why do you people always "ASSUME" that this is done by young people???? If you read any of the local news, you will find that the majority of the stupid crimes done in this area are by adults. Quit blaming the youths in the area for this stuff....not all of us are trouble makers. Remember, once a person is 18, they are considered an adult...so they are in your classification..not ours.

There was only one comment that said young people. The rest said the person or people. Guilty consent or do you know who did it.?

Yes..there was only one reference to young people.....on this post. I have seen it happen on other posts also, especially with the smashed mailboxes and camp burglaries. It is NOT always done by "young" people.

This is terrible and i'm dead serious. Whoever did this should face a stiff penalty.I'm mortified.
Everyone should leave their hands off other peoples stones.
