Dairy Farmers Take Action Demanding Help

This is the same old song and dance the farmers cry every few years. "We are selling our milk for less than it costs to produce it." Well, if that is the case, sell your cows and go do something else. Always looking for the Govt. to prop you up with subsidies and "free money" will never solve your problem. Your problem is that you produce too much milk. There is life after farming, trust me. I sold my cows back in 1993, went on and did other things and have never regretted it.

Your not serious are you..10 dollar
a hundred milk, they were getting
that 30 years ago and now. The prices are not what they were 30 years ago. They don't get cost of living raises, they don't get sick
time off with pay. It is a good thing these people like what they're doing or you wouldn't be going to the grocery store and buying that cheese, milk, butter, cereal, potatoes, vegetables pork, beef and the list goes on. They don't ask for a hand out there asking for a fair wage.

The farmers choose how they make their living, nobody is forcing them to do it. I agree with the first poster....if you don't like the way the dice a rolling, sell out and do something else. Quit sucking up government subsidies that the taxpayers foot the bill for.

TO KIDMENOT AND THE 11:36 POSTER- YOUR ASSES. FARMERS HAVE TO WORK 7 DAYS A WEEK AND 365 DAYS A YEAR.FARMERS HAVE A LOVE FOR THEIR WORK OR THEY WOULDN'T BE OUT THERE BUSTING ASS TO DO IT. SOMEONE HAS TO DO IT. WHY SHOULDN'T THEY GET HELP FROM THE GOVERMENT? ALL THE PEOPLE ON WELFARE DO! BUT SOMEONE WORKING THEIR ASS OFF SHOULDN'T? SELL OUT ? THEN WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU GOING TO GET YOUR DAIRY PRODUCTS AND BEEF?
HOW MANY RICH FARMERS DO YOU SEE IN THIS AREA? THEY ARE GREATLY UNDER PAID FOR WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO. AND NO, I AM NOT A FARMER !!!

America will be starving someday!

You people are unreal in your criticism of farmers! The federal govt is the biggest problem. They plan to import even more milk in 2010 from foreign countries. This is what keeps milk prices paid to farmers down, it creates less demand, which drives prices. We need to take back our govt ! A govt that works for us, not against

Maybe if you started milking the cows instead of the bulls you would start to turn a profit. Hippies!

unfortunatily if the cows were only forund in Iraq then the prices would be sky high and Americans wouldn't think twice about the price.

If we can bail out the automotive industry with a cash for clunkers program - we certainly can do something to regulate the milk prices. It's time our government got off their fat asses and did something right for a change.

Hey scientist,

Had you have read my entire post I said I used to be a dairy farmer. No need to try and explain how much work it is. Furthermore, not all of the farmers need to sell out, just the bottom 15% as they are holding the prices down for the top 85%.

"we certainly can do something to regulate the milk prices."

I can only name 2 things the govt does well: provide national defense and collect taxes. If you sit around and wait on the govt to regulate (ei prop up) the milk prices, you will be in for a long, painful, spiral into bankruptcy.

We will see how these idiots feel when we get imported milk. Let me see your precious children you love so much will have breasts by about 4 years old. Oh and that is girls and boys. But keep on bad mouthing farmers PEOPLE WITHOUT A CLUE. They work there asses of a love there farms and would not change it for the world. They are not only fighting to keep there farms afloat but they are fighting to keep healthy milk here for our kids. As for them getting money from the gov. Some people have not a clue what it takes to run a farm and then when your corn is deformed from all of this rain. Hello if they have a year like this one and half or all there crops are lost what the hell you think they are going to live on. If your stupid please leave your comments at home and think twice about sticking up for the gov. They are not looking our for you or your family.

THE GOVERMENT HAS ALWAY REGULATED
THE PRICE OF THE MILK THE FARMERS GET. THEY REGULATE THE EXPORT AND IMPORT OF DAIRY PRODUCTS TO "ADJUST" THE PRICE PER HUNDRED
WEIGHT OF MILK. A HUNDRED WEIGHT
IS ROUGHLY 9 GALLONS OF MILK. THE
FARMER IS GETTING 10 DOLLARS FOR THAT NINE GALLONS OF MILK. A GALLON OF DISEL IS ABOUT 2.75 PER GALLON. A TON OF FERTILIZER IS NOW
OVER 500 A TON. FEED FOR THE COWS IS OVER 250 DOLLARS A TON, MAYBE MORE. TO GET A VET TO ARRIVE IN YOUR DRIVE ANYWHERE FROM 75-125 DOLLARS DEPENDING ON THE DISTANCE. This is not about goverment handouts, this is about fairness, the auto workers or anyother type of factory, industrial workers won't work for the amount of hours it takes to make that 9 gallons of milk, or hundred weight. The goverment does regulate the price the farmers get when the economy fell the goverment decreased the milk price to the farmers to help the consumers. Well farmers are consumers too. This summer has been tragic for farmers with the rain if they could get it planted, now can they get it harvested. People work at jobs they love not because they have to. Where would we all be if everyone worked at the same thing..Hungry, walking, not getting medical care.
