I believe this is riduculous. How about the people who live week to week and pay their bills, sure I understand their low income. How much of that money do you think will go for these childrens clothing and supplies. GET REAL!

If you are living week to week then do something about it.

They should run it like a work flex spend account. They get issued a card and go buy stuff on the approved list. If something comes up questionable a receipt is requested. If it doesn't check out it comes out of their next welfare check.

it is not the childrens fault that they are low income...think how greatful you would be if you lost your job and could get help through a program like this..

I'm not saying this is a bad thing but i thought stimulus money was for shovel ready programs to create jobs???

To 5:05, there is NOT much work around here.

come on people... at least its being spent on something worthwhile and not repairing more roads in a half assed manner. some people will find a reason to whine about anything...

The same old Democratic ploy. Keep the welfae people happy at workers expense. Where do you think the Dems get their votes from?

I agree with the comment that it should be like a flexible spending account. Why not?

Then they could monitor what the money was being spent on to make sure it went for pencils and paper and not pizza and beer.

I am considered low income but I do not get welfair assistance. Why because I choose to do it on my own. Sure it would help out but I would rather live pay check to pay check. A grant program like this would sure help, the kids deserve it.

The problem that I see with this isw that in a lot of the cases it is not being spent on the kids at all. When you people collect your extra $400 on your income tax for child tax credits, do you spend that money on your kids or just pocket it. Once again, there is no accountability on where "OUR" money is being spent. Yes...I live in PA and my tax money is being divvied out to needy people in NY with no accountability whatsoever. I wonder how many people will spend the $200 on beer and smokes???

Why not help out all families??? Why are the working families always left out of these programs? Their children need things too that they don't get because the bills are paid. It is unfair-we get punished for working!!!

WORKFARE is the answer!!

some people are working their tails off and still can't get ahead. a little hand up is a good thing for those families.
