One Dead, Five Injured In Rt. 59 Crash Tuesday

A Lewis Run woman was killed and several others were injured when a pickup truck spun out of control in a heavy rain and struck a passenger vehicle Tuesday afternoon at 4:13 pm on Route 59, 2 miles east of the Warren County line.

Kane State Police said the crash occurred when Jay Darwin, 52, of Sugargrove, PA, driving a 2002 Ford 150 pickup westbound on Rt. 59, lost control on the wet roadway. His pickup began to slide counter-clockwise when he over-corrected causing the pickup to spin clockwise. It crossed over the center line and into the eastbound lane where the pickup impacted a 2002 Buick Century with it's left front. The Buick was struck in it's front right. After the impact, the pickup rolled over on it's roof.

Darwin was the sole occupant of the pickup truck. He received minor injuries, but refused medical treatment. Troopers charged him with Driving Vehicle At Safe Speed.

Cathy J. DiBonaventura, 52, of Sunbury, PA, was the driver of the eastbound Buick. She received a moderate injury.

The front passenger in the Buick had to be extricated from the vehicle, and was later transported to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA. The middle rear passenger was transported from the scene by ambulance to Bradford Regional Medical Center. Two other passengers were transported via ambulance to Warren General Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The left rear passenger in the Buick, Sherry L. Hayter, 50, of Lewis Run, PA, was pronounced dead at Warren General Hospital.

The other passengers in the Buick were identified as: Cristen J. Deibler, 25, of Sunbury, PA, she received major injuries; a five year old female juvenile from Sunbury received moderate injuries; and a second 5 year old female juvenile from Sunbury received minor injuries.

All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts or restrained in child safety seats. State Police were assisted at the scene by Corydon Township Fire Department, Corydon Township Ambulance, Bradford City Ambulance, Warren County Ambulance, and Clarendon Ambulance. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Clayt's Body Shop.

Troopers said the investigation is continuing.
