Public Stargazing Programs at Cherry Springs State Park

Public Stargazing Programs at Cherry Springs State Park

Lunar Craters
August 28, 2009
9:00 pm

Learn the history of our planet’s nearest galactic neighbor. Use a lunar map to explore the Moon’s landscape and try and identify some of the craters you find. We’ll demonstrate the Moon’s phases and understand how its light affects human night vision.
Visitors should park their cars in the parking lot on the North side of the park, and follow the lighted walkway to the meeting area.

Family Telescope Workshop
August 29, 2009
4:30 pm

If you have a telescope collecting dust in your closet or better yet, if you’re considering buying one but are not sure what to look for, this workshop is just for you. Our staff and volunteers will help you either finally use that old scope or learn what to look for should you decide to buy one. You'll learn how telescopes bring night sky objects closer to us and see several different kinds that are used for stargazing. There is no fee for this program but pre registration is required by contacting the Lyman Run park office at 814-435-5010.
