Commonwealth Court has rejected an appeal filed by three couples who objected to the new county emergency services center being built near their homes in the Maple View area, east of Coudersport. The three-judge panel affirmed a Potter County Court of Common Pleas ruling that the property development could proceed.
Plaintiffs had alleged that the Coudersport Borough Zoning Hearing Board abused its discretion in granting a variance for the renovation of a county-owned former group home for the mentally retarded into a emergency center, accompanied by a 120-foot communications tower and generators. Zoning Hearing Board members granted the variance in January 2008 following a hearing and construction work proceeded.
The plaintiffs cited concerns about the possible health effects of the communications equipment, safety issues, aesthetics and a negative impact on property values. Potter County Today

If they don't like it (home owners), just move. The "new and improved" emergency services may just save a few lives.
I bet if a hurricane, tornado or the swine flu was heading for their front door they would want to know.
now thats the christian compassion we are know for here.........
no matter what happens, a certain few aren't happy unless they ruin it for everybody..negative property value...why didn't they complain about what the former adelphia cable did to thier property value...good thing it wasn't a wind turbine
It's like the windmills, you are all for them until they are near to you. Personally though, I think the county or state could have found them a better location than stuffed in a small lot off Route 872 in a residental area. Even the downtown Mausoleum would have been a far better choice. The new building is no better than the old. It's not visitor friendly and is already becoming cramped.
Another case of NIMBY - not in my back yard. It's just like the windmills, a prison, a methodone clinic, or a nuclear power plant. Everyone wants the benefits it provides to society but nobody wants it near their neighborhood. Guess what? It's always going to end up in SOMEONE'S back yard.
Nothing is ever done on the "up and up" here in Potter County so I feel sorry for the people who now have to live beside this tower and generators and no, the answer is not for those people to sell their homes and leave.
Bird thinks because he's psp if he starts barking he will get what he wants tuff your on diffrent than the rest of us
This is a Hetrick/Wingo deal that goes back a few years, folks. Menard, Hamilton, McCratic made out pretty good on it. Check the records if you can find them on how much those three made once this thing got rolling.
I would be interested to know more of this deal you speak of since Mr. Menard was the main witness for John Hetrick at the Borough Council Meeting and was more than likely the reason why it was approved!

I think i just found my treestand for this years hunting season! Woot, look at that platform on the tower. Oh and I hear that it is brown so my camo should blend right in. Oh I can't wait, I'm so excited!
FYI to the Anonymous joker..BURD, isn't the one who complained so maybe you need to get your facts straight!
you people would bitch if the tower was made of gold and spit out 100 dollars bills every hour god forbid the 911 system would work in this county cause it aint worth a sh** right now
Is this an extension of the millions of dollars that went into a 911 infrastructure budgeted years ago, or is this a totally new endeavor where more of our tax money is being spent......and why in the heck would it be down in the bottom of the valley?
if it was on the hilltop, twice as many people would bitch that's why !!!
McCratic, as in the guy that was fired from Empereon????
You know guys and gals, if you weren't walking around with your noses up in the air you wouldn't notice how high the tower is.
Gee the communication has not got any better. However they continue to spend money. Hey john why not increase your salary.
Christian Compassion? Most or all of you are negative, judgmental, and cynical. Everyone on here is so quick to talk about things in which they have no idea. Does anyone know how much union labor cost is? If we would have had union workers on this project, it would have cost twice as much. As for McCratic, he found multiple problems with the blue prints which would have cost thousands more to add in the things that were left out. Hamilton Construction had to work around multiple changes in during construction. They both did excellent jobs and actually saved the county money. I don't have anything positive to say about Mike M. so I just won't comment. Just because you are upset about the tower we shouldn't run down people in our community that did the project for the county.
Thank you for the comment above. It's nice to see that someone actually has fact behind an opinion.
