Grandmother & Child Located In Search

Search In Coudersport Area
Coudersport Firefighters were called out for a search at about 4:30 pm on Thursday.
Additional volunteers were recalled at 5:30 when it was reported that the pair had been located.

A grandmother and a 3 year old were reported lost at a location near Summit Road in Allegany Township and unable to find their way. They had walked from a location at 1155 Summit Road in Allegany Township. The grandmother said they left the Summit Road and traveled up a hill on a logging road in order to get cell phone service.

As her cell phone battery was dying out, volunteers were preparing to bring in a state police helicopter, and possibly a mercy flight helicopter to attempt to locate them, in light of approach of nightfall in a few hours. Attempts to get a direction by the grandmother hearing fire sirens from the trucks were unsuccessful.

Firefighters set up a command post at the Saulter Preserve. Attempts to track the cellphone location were also unsuccessful, with the Vader Hill tower being the only tower receiving the signal.

At last report, a maroon pickup truck was bringing the pair to the intersection of Bryant Road and Summit Road. Further details will await posting from the Coudersport Fire Department. Coudersport Units reported returning & available at 5:47 pm.
