Ski-Denton Owners To Lease/Buy Swain Resort In Northern Allegany County

Swain saved: Ski Denton owners ink lease deal with Saunders, Flaum

By Justin Head
Swain Resort has been saved.

According to a press release by Carr Marketing Communications, the operators of Ski Denton in Coudersport, Pa., have reached a lease agreement with the intent to buy Swain Resort.

The release states that under terms of the agreement, Ski Denton owners Scott and Jodi Carts and Shawn and Celeste Schoonover will continue ski operations at Swain Resort with the intention of completing the purchase of the resort in the near future and transforming it into a four-season family destination.

“It basically buys them a couple of months to a season or two so they can get the financing to make the purchase,” said Eric Stearns, general manager of Swain Resort, Tuesday morning.

“They are bringing back most of the employees, if not everybody ... this is a good group,” he said.

Specific details about the deal were not disclosed.

Stearns said the Ski Denton group does not plan on changing Swain’s name. Season passes already purchased and any prior school ski club contracts will be honored.

“The Ski Denton partners are a young, industrious, and capable group of experienced ski center owner-operators,” current owner Philip Saunders said in a prepared statement. More...

Good news for the Swain area, I hope it all goes through for them.

That's a great area to ski. It would be a loss if it closed, but it can happen especially with the "winters" we've had.
