Westfield Man Uninjured After Car Rolls Over

Brakes Went Out
A Westfield man was uninjured, Saturday afternoon at 3:20 pm, when his vehicle overturned on the White Corners Road in Harrison Township.

Christopher Mitchell, 21, Westfield, PA, was traveling east on SR1019 (Whites Corners Road) in a 1999 Saturn when he discovered his brakes were not working upon approach to a left curve in the roadway. The driver lost control attempting to negotiate the curve, exited the road to the east and struck a ditch. The vehicle overturned one time and came to rest along the east side of the road.

Coudersport Troopers reported Mitchell was wearing a seat belt and no charges were placed.

This was a blind curve, traffic south bound was unalbe to see that there was an accident until they were into the curve. Was very dangerous for cars going south.
WHERE WAS THE FIRE DEPARTMENT!

The Fire Dept was never dispatched nor made aware of the incident. Can't respond to something you don't know about.

The speed limit on this road is 40 mph maybe if cars would slow down to that speed, you could see around the corner. This is not the first accident on this corner and I'm sure it won't be the last. Since they have recently paved the road the cars are travleing alot faster then they were before.

Does it really matter if the vehicle is going 40, 35,30 or even 25 mph if the brakes fail ! you can not stop !

Ever hear of an "Emergency Brake"?

Instead of calling the fire department on the carpet for this also ask the question WHERE WAS THE GREAT PSP! The Fire Department in Harrison Twp responds to anything that is dispatched. I have a scanner and listen to it all the time. They were not dispatched nor did anyone call a chief that I know of. Don't get down on a department that does respond to your call. Just compare how long it takes the cops to get to something you call on as opposed to the fire department. Takes PSP almost an hour in most cases but not much more then ten minutes for a fire department to respond and they don't question you and try and get out of coming.
