Dale W. Fillmore, 70, of Genesee, PA, formerly of Mills, PA

Dale W. Fillmore, 70, of Genesee, PA, formerly of Mills, PA, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009 in the Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY, following a short illness, surrounded by his family.

Born July 27, 1939, in Blossburg, PA, he was the son of the late Claude E. and Doris A. Goodwin Fillmore.

He was a 1958 graduate of Westfield High School. He married the former Lois Nelson in 1959 in Genesee and they celebrated 50 years of marriage on August 7, 2009.

He retired in 1999 after 35 years of working for PennDOT as "The Gas Man". In retirement, he and Lois spent a few months each year at their winter home in Florida.

He was an avid NASCAR fan and outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, camping, and making maple syrup. He enjoyed the many family gatherings, which often included his famous chicken barbeque, especially those at his camp in Genesee, which after retirement became his home. He especially enjoyed time spent with his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Surviving besides his wife, Lois, are: four daughters, Sheila (Jurgan) Bradac of Kirtland, OH, Annette (Joe) Miles of Little Marsh, PA, Susan (Ed) Quick of Freeport, TX, and Lynne (Tom) Roeske of Scio, NY; eight grandchildren, Cory (Nettie) Miles, Travis Miles, Lacy Miles, Bryan Miles, Vernon Quick, Samantha Quick, Mark Roeske, and Jennifer Roeske; four great-grandchildren, Jillian, Brock, Lana, and Jamal. Although raised as an only child, there were many aunts, uncles, and cousins sharing his life. An added blessing with his marriage to Lois was the extended family he gained of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he greatly enjoyed throughout his lifetime.

Friends may call at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 6:00 -- 9:00 PM and on Saturday from 2:00 -- 3:00 PM, with Funeral Services at 3:00 PM. The Rev. Terry Hughes will officiate. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Genesee Volunteer Ambulance, Genesee, PA 16923, the Polycystic Kidney Foundation, 1-800-PKD-CURE, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 400, Kansas City, MO 64114, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Jim,

On the Fillmore obit, someone was asking for Lois Fillmore's address. We don't release specific addresses, but the individual could simply send something to her at Genesee, PA 16923 and she would receive it, or mail it in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 384, Ulysses, PA 16948. Thank you.

Dale was a hell of a good guy, always good for a joke every time the fuel truck would pull in to give fuel for equipment. He will be missed! Butch Jones
