You Can Have A Say In Human Services Programs

humanserviceslogo1Each month, a group of volunteers meets in Roulette to discuss how programs being operated by the county can better serve the needs of the mentally ill, elderly, addicted, mentally retarded, abused, and others. Recommendations that are made by this group, the Potter County Human Services Advisory Board, play an important part in the operation of that agency, according to PCHS Executive Director Jim Kockler.

Eight of the board’s seats are currently occupied and the by-laws allow for up to 21 members, prompting Potter County Board of Commissioners Doug Morley, Susan Kefover and Paul Heimel to put out a call for volunteers. The commissioners are seeking a member of the clergy to join the Advisory Board and are reaching out to consumers of PCHS programs or their family members to join the organization. They’re seeking diversity in community representation through the inclusion of businesses, educators, government officials, the medical community, clergy, consumers and anyone else affected by Human Services programs.

Current members are Dr. Victor Brown, Anne Nelson, Cathy Bowers, Donna Toner, John Moshier, Denise Minderler, Bob Wicker and Nancy Erway. A ninth member, Linda Swift, is expected to be appointed by the commissioners this week, leaving four vacancies.

Next Potter County Human Services Advisory Board meeting will be held at 7 pm Thursday (Sept. 24) at the Roulette office. Meetings are open to the public, including prospective members. Anyone seeking additional information should contact Rhonda White or Jim Kockler at 544-7315. Potter County Today
