Lancaster Soldier, 19, Killed In Afghanistan War

Anonymous said...

Dear God help his family find peace! My prayers are with you.

FSM said...

Many of the people we are fighting believe we are there because of religious difference and this is a crusade. They believe Allah is on their side and we believe Jesus is on ours.

We pray for the lives of our people (and the deaths of our enemies) while they do exactly the same.

See also: Top 10 ways to convince Muslims we are on a religious crusade

When war has devolved into Christianity vs. Islam I think "praying for peace" becomes a bit of an oxymoron.

And yeah, this comment will probably get filtered because it hurts some people's feelings, but we have killed each other off over silly superstitions for entirely too long and I don't give a damn if saying it hurts your feelings.

Anonymous said...

I believe in Jesus Christ and have never prayed for the death of anyone! I pray for the hearts of those that believe that killing AMERICANS is a crusade! We are fighting terrorists, not Islam!

Who are you to say what Christians pray for when you make it clear that you don't practice such a superstition?

I pray, right now, as you sit at your computer and condemn those that fight for you freedom so you can express your right to say why they decided to serve our Country, that you take a deep breath and look at the big picture, rather than your empty shell of a soul.

Anonymous said...

5:20 Your way of thinking only justify's your lack of concern that it might "hurts some people's feelings." A soldier died, of whatever religon, who cares! That's a moment to close your eyes and be grateful that you are alive and well.

Empathy?! Must have gotten lost in your mission to remove "supersition" from your life! Boy, made you into a bitter person.

Anonymous said...

Who does that? Who lives in this Country and puts that kind of blog in an article about the death of a solider? Someone's son?! Feel free to give your point of view, I would listen to it and consider it...never though when you can say that after a solider has died SO THAT YOU CAN SAY THAT!

FSM said...

You can't play they "they fight for your freedom" card against me becasue I signed the same dotted line.

Don't tell me I don't care about this mans death, I think I am the only person that does.

I believe religious difference has a great deal to do with the violence in the middle east and to disagree with me on that point is simply naive and misinformed.

I say killing people over superstitions is retarded, this man probably died over it and your biggest concern is my level of empathy??

FSM said...

And the clarify, my response was to poster #1 who said they were going to pray to god for the family to find peace.

It is religious difference that is at the root of this conflict and by extension, a religious conflict that cost him his life.

To tell the family you are going to "pray for them" after they lost a son to a religion fueled conflict would be like telling someone you are going to do a line of coke in their sons honor after they were killed in a drug war.

Vee said...

My heart aches for this family, there is no greater pain than to bury your child.

That being said, I have said it before and I will say it again:
Robin Williams' plan...(Hard to argue with this logic!)

'I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan for peace. So, here's one plan..'

1) 'The US will apologize to the world for our 'interference' in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Tojo, Noriega, Milosevic, Hussein, and the rest of those 'good 'ole' boys', we will never 'interfere' again.

2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany , South Korea , the Middle East , and the Philippines . They don't want us there.. We would station troops at our borders. No one allowed sneaking through holes in the fence..

3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of whom or where they are. They're illegal!!! France will welcome them.

4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit!!!! No one from a terrorist nation will be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself and don't hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers.

5) No foreign 'students' over age 21. The older ones are the bombers.. If they don't attend classes, they get a 'D' and it's back home baby.

6) The US will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing nonpolluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while

7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go someplace else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.)

8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not 'interfere.' They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if anything.

9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island someplace. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us 'Ugly Americans' any longer. The Language we speak is ENGLISH..learn it....or LEAVE...Now, isn't that a winner of a plan?

'The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying 'Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.' She's got a baseball bat and she's yelling, 'you want a piece of me?' '

We have given until it hurts, we have fought the fight for too many for too long, our tears are of sorrow, broken hearts and pride.

The entire point of this news release is that a YOUNG MAN WAS KILLED. A young man who has family; a young man who made a stand and fought for our country! Instead of all the other issues, that he was killed should be first and foremost. I WILL pray for this young man's family. I do believe that PRAYER is an answer and I will also pray for FSM.

Anonymous said...

Shelly you are correct this is not a time for bringing forth our issues. It is time to support this brave soliders family in there time of grief. May you find peace in the knowledge that many people are thinking of you.

People are being murdered around the world at the hands of these "religions of peace" but saying it is taboo.

Exodus 31:15
For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death.

Exodus 35:3
Do not light a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day.

So the bible says even lighting a fire is punishable by death. This could be extended to turning on a lightbulb or driving a car, but what about using electronics?

The bible is filled with useless reasons to kill people, and while you can say violent people will do violent things it isn't hard to imagine how phrases like MUST BE PUT TO DEATH could be interpreted as suggesting violence.

The fact that there are some moral lessons mixed in with all of the violence and hate should not make it OK.

If I killed 2 people today and was nice to 4 of them, what would the police do with me? Tell their kids I am a moral example and they will go to hell if they don't do as I say? I though so.

Your pastors stand in front of the church every Sunday and read you the nice parts of the bible.

How about instead they read:
Deuteronomy 22:13-21
A marriage shall be considered valid only if the wife is a virgin. If the wife is not a virgin, she shall be executed.

And Shelly:
1 Corinthians 14:34
women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.

Since I assume you are a women, the text is pretty clear about what your rights are here. Your rule, not mine.

Anonymous said...

no I dont think shelly said anything about rules.

I like shelly are saving that we feel for this family for the loss of there Brave son. that is what most people were saying.

As for FSM your post :

People are being murdered around the world at the hands of these "religions of peace" but saying it is taboo.

I am not sure if anyone would disagree with some of your statements, but people will probably agree that this space right here was not the place for it. If you want to start a conversation about it, send Jim and email and I am pretty sure he would post it for you to we can start a conversation on it. I would love to discuss it with you.

also If you are an American Soldier, well I thank you for your time and service, and that is about all I can do for you.

FSM said...

"I am not sure if anyone would disagree with some of your statements, but people will probably agree that this space right here was not the place for it."

To be fair, it isn't a church either but you made no mention of poster # 1 who started by saying a prayer (see 1:04).

I guess I wasn't aware that being a member of your brand of religion was a requirement to be able to speak.

What if I said: “Posts are allowed as long as they are against religion in tone. If you have a religious message (like prayer) you would like to convey, please email Jim and I am pretty sure he would post it for discussion.”

It sounds ridiculous when reversed, but it is essentially what you said to me.

Also, if thousands of people were being killed around the world because cell phones were exploding in their pockets and this man was killed by an exploding cell phone, do you think people would be talking about it? Absolutely.

But when it is religion that is responsible for their deaths it is forbidden from discussion?

People have to stop treating religion like it is beyond questioning.

FSM it's leftist anti god hippes like you that give rational thought a bad name

Anonymous said...

So right 1:42!!! Speak your mind, but pick your battles!!! I could be on the fence with many of his arguments, but posting such ideas on an article mean't as a tribute to a fallen solider only makes his idea's worthless.

Empathy/Wisdom!! Learn it FSM!!

FSM said...

My position is simply that religion is man made and not worth killing people over. Even many religious people believe that every religion but the one they were born into was man made, so is it that irrational to question that one too?

If god really gave man a set of rules to live by, you honestly believe it would be the things written in the bible?

I am also not leftist or a hippie.

It is people like you that give assumptions a bad name.

FSM said...

I explained why above but you seem to suffer from short term memory, so I'll reiterate.

"To tell the family you are going to "pray for them" after they lost a son to a religion fueled conflict would be like telling someone you are going to do a line of coke in their sons honor after they were killed in a drug war."

And seeing people here get out the torches and pitch forks when someone dares question religion it isn't hard to see the problem with it.

Don't call yourself "Not a Leftist" and write such a stupid statement!!

Do you see the face of the SOlider on that article? Do you know why he served in the military? Do you know his personal religous beliefs?

Show some respect and take your anti-religon crusade to other articles!!

How you interpret the Bible is on your hands! Take your views on religon/war/soliders, and write them where your argument is worth being heard. Not in an article about a lost Solider! Those awful versus written at the beginning of Christianity that offend you so much, they were the laws of God has Moses saw them. Things have changed as they do in every religon and culture!

Matthew 5:17
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

FSM said...

Again you state this is not the place to be critical of religion, and I will again maintain that this isn't the place to be supporting it.

You too are involved in this conversation are you not?

You are right that we do not know the religion of this man, so why do you assume that your religious view is any more acceptable than my view?

You seem to have an inflated sense of self entitlement, maybe it is you who is the leftist.

I have made this point multiple times but you still refuse to grasp it.

Further proof that conflicts cannot be solved through reasoning when religion is involved.

FSM said...

PS. This discussion is getting petty.

FSM makes two posts and follows himself with, "this discussion is getting petty". Beware everyone, leftist anti god hippies are prone to schizophrenia.

This is the wrong place for alternative opinions but not for name calling?

I don't think any of your comments mean jack-all to this soldiers family.

Religeon, oil, war on being Afraid of stuff, i dont care what the reason is.

The little guy dies for the big guy's interests and meanwhile you all just yell at each other.

The only noble argument is that we are building a nation. The flaw to this argument is we are doing so by taking our's apart.
