Petition Urges Lifting Ban On Drilling In ANF

Petition to continue oil and gas drilling on Allegheny National Forest sent to Obama, Rendell

A petition signed by 2,000 people in favor of continuing oil and gas drilling on the Allegheny National Forest has been sent to President Barack Obama and Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell.

The petition, distributed by the Pennsylvania Oil and Gas Association (POGAM) and the Allegheny Forest Alliance, urges intervention to lift a ban on oil and gas development by the U.S. Forest Service.

The ban came earlier this year after a settlement between the Forest Service and a group of environmentalists who were seeking to have environmental impact analyses done prior to any drilling on the forest. Read more...

Where's the folks from God's Country on this one? You can "drill, baby, drill" but ultimately someone is going to pay for it and it won't be the big companies making the profits. All this does is shift the addiction to fossil fuels from greedy corporations in other countries (of which many are American-based) to greedy companies in the US. How loyal do you think they'll be to their workers? This is the cry of the greedy and short-sighted. Einstein once said that to keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. Until we develop RENEWABLE forms of energy, its the same story, different day.

If a country "has" and "controls"
its own energy source, it controls its own fate.Depending on other countries for our oil is what has gotten us into most of the messes we have now.Natural gas is a huge resource in this country.Larger than all the oil reserves we depend on now.I for one would like to see the Middle East,Russia,China
and all the rest, out of our lives.
We can't just stop using fossil fuels, until we have another source that will sustain the countries needs while we find and develop alternatives.

Saturday, October 31, 2009 8:24:00 AM EDT I agree with you on this but the situation is we will always depend on them other countries for their fuels because OUR retarded government only feels they should put ours in reserves. They been drilling all over the united states and yet noone has seen gas prices settle out or drop yet for vehicles or home heating. The government buys foriegn oil at a cheaper price then what it costs for them to process what they pull from here. So they can charge us on competitive prices.
