DUNN’S HIRING MADE PERMANENT

The Potter County Commissioners during their meeting on October 22 approved the permanent hiring of Glenn Dunn as Emergency Management Coordinator.

Dunn has been serving as “acting” coordinator for a few months filling a vacancy created when the commissioners terminated the employment of Jim Steiner who is currently awaiting trial on possessing child pornography.

The commissioners said it is time to move forward and there are state and federal requirements for a permanent position.

The commissioners acted upon the recommendation of Department of Emergency Services Director John Hetrick. Commissioners Doug Morley and Susan Kefover voted in favor of the hiring.

Commissioner Paul Heimel was absent from the meeting as he was out of town visiting two rural Texas Counties to learn more about the natural gas boom occurring in that region.

What happened to innocent until proven guilty.

If Jim is cleared of the charge will he get his job back, or will this be grounds for a big lawsuit.

The positions of EMA Coordinator as well as the Emergency Services Director are annual appointments. This means that the individuals in those positions serve at the will of the board of county commissioners. Their appointment can be ended at any time and must be renewed on an annual basis.

Sometimes having a county position isn't all its cracked up to be.

Iam confused....
I thought we elected the county commissioners to oversee the county programs and offices and the county budget. When did they become an enviromental oversight group? Don't my taxes already pay numerous agencys for this?
How about doing the job you are being paid for!

To poster 4:55PM - do you have any clue what you are talking about? If you do, I think you're probably the only one.

Did you read the story? One of our commissioners was absent for this important vote because he was in Texas visiting rural counties to learn about the recent gas boom in these areas.
Do you have a clue???

Blah,Blah,Blah. Get over it, it's done. Let Glenn do his job. Beside's i think he's best for the job anyway's. Congrat's to you Glenn, you deserve it.

Good Luck Glenn, I sure hope you can handle the responsibilities. Its just a crying shame that you got this job because the one interviewed and hired is being railroaded. Jim had all the creidentials for the job including incident management, as well as EMS training and the understanding of grants, etc, etc. While you held the position of Fire Chief for a year or two, Jim held the position of Bussiness Ops Manager at CVAA for many years, and volunteered his time in the same capacity for many years. By far his experience in the position was for the better of the community, and it is now the community's loss as he is railroaded by a "woman scorned". Exactly what will happen when Jim is found innocent? Will he be entitled to get his job back? Yeah, I can definately smell a lawsuit if he is not at least offered the position.

I do not know what everyone is so heated up about. Did you not hear that when GOD closes one door he opens another. I am sure this is what Jim believes. Why not let the courts decide whether he is innocent or guilty. Why keep hashing it over and over. This position had to be filled by someone to keep the business going and Glenn happened to be the one who got it. Maybe if some of you spent the time volunteering that you spend reading this garbage and replying to it, we would not be so short on volunteers. Thank you

How does one file a lawsuit when one admitts to having child pornography? All that's left is for the Court to decided the punishment of Jim Steiner. I understand that he has many supporters, some of which thought it appropriate to send him to the Alliance Daycare to teach the kids about fire safety. If that isn't a slap in the face to the parents of the children that attend that daycare?!

Support him and be his friend, but denying what he has acknowledged is foolish and a waste of time.

Congrats Mr.Dunn, Great Job!

Obviously Mr. Dunn has the same if not more credentials as Mr. Steiner and if you don't believe this is the case then you obviously don't know much about him. Jim is a good man and things happen. Glenn had the opportunity to stand up to the challenge of a position of his capacity and was not in any way "slid in the back door" people need to realize this position is appointed. Good Luck Glenn, I know you will go above and beyond and will serve the county well just as in the past 25+ years of serving the community faithfully.
