Richard E. Alexander, 75, of N. Main St., Port Allegany, PA

PORT ALLEGANY- Richard E. Alexander, 75, of N. Main St. died Tuesday (Oct. 13, 2009) in Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA.

Born June 5, 1934, in Lyonsville, OH, he was a son of Walter and Bernice Stanford Alexander. On Mar. 12, 1963, in Cranesville, PA, he married Martha A. Carrier, who died Apr. 19, 1991.

Mr. Alexander graduated from Albion High School, Albion, PA, and attended the University of Pittsburgh.

He was a retired Pennsylvania State Trooper, and also taught at the Seneca Highlands Vo-Tech School, Port Allegany, as a heavy equipment and maintenance instructor, retiring in 1997.

He was a resident of the area for 28 years, coming from Fairview, PA.

He was a former member of Pennsylvania State Education Association, National Rifle Association, and American Association of Retired Persons.

Surviving are two sons, Richard M. Alexander of Erie, PA, Trevor D. Alexander of Columbia, PA; three daughters, Patricia J. McLaughlin of Edinboro, PA, Kimberley (Scott) Cole of Salt Lake City, UT, Carla Welch of Ballston Spa, NY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Walter Alexander of Albion, PA, David Alexander of Conneaut, OH; three sisters, Sally Alexander and Cecilia (Tom) Boyer both of Albion, PA, Carol (Tom) Mihaulik of Cranesville PA; longtime companion, Betty Ann Lewis of Port Allegany, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Martha, and a brother.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 17, 2009) with Rev. Randall Headley, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Port Allegany, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.

Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
