Keep up the good work!!!!PA.SP

I hate cops. Why can't they just leave us alone.

Great job PSP, get the drunk drivers off the road and keep our community safe!!! But seriously...why warn people???

Anonymous said...

I agree do not give these careless people the "heads up" on when a checkpoint will be, be serious just do the job and don't warn them. Thats almost as bad as people driving under the influence. Great Job PSP-DO NOT WARN THEM ANYMORE

it's a law in PA that they have to post the warning... it is supposed to deter people from drinking and driving... this is a big county so who knows where it will be... people should just get a DD.

per the State Police website:
The use of the media to inform the community of the massive DUI enforcement activity promotes the goals of the program and causes citizens to make better decisions regarding driving under the influence during that particular weekend.

If you warm them they will not drive on the roads that night so there for it is a win win for the cops. The drunks are off the road and the ones that are driving have a slight greater chance of getting caught. Why dont we look at the glass half full instead of half empty.

They warn because the guidelines say so. They are trying to deter drunk driving by just saying they will be out. Here is the exact guideline.

"To maximize the deterrent effect, sobriety checkpoints should be publicized aggressively."

Now, this doesn't work in an area as rural as PC where everybody knows everyone. I used to live in Galeton and there are about 4 different bars in and around town that people go to. It would take about 10 minutes after the police setup the checkpoint for every single person in all of the bars to know it was there and find a different route home. I remember one night that a bunch of people from Coudy were over and the police setup on Rt. 6 so everyone just went up over the hill at Cherry Springs to get home. It's kind of a joke.

It is until your child gets killed by a drunk driver. You would support the effort without question then, and not be offended or concerned for the rights of the violaters

D.U.I.You cant afford it.

The only thing that is a joke is the amount of police in such a small place thats the real joke

I can't believe how stupid some of you are.. and I'm speaking of those posters saying 'DON'T WARN THEM!'

Now, I'm not stupid. So I'm not going to call you stupid without telling you why you're stupid. So here it is.

Let's say I had all intentions of drinking and driving this weekend. Not because I'm an idiot, but because it's a fun weekend to get out.. and lets be honest.. I've never been in an accident or pulled over for a DUI. I consider myself a good driver, even under the influence. However, now that I've read this.. I'm thinking that's a bad idea. Not because I think I may wreck.. but now I know my chances of getting popped has increased ten fold. So, time to find a DD or tell the wife 'Hey, sorry. But you're not allowed to drink cause you have to drive!'.

Now, your logic is; DON'T WARN THEM LET THEM GET POPPED FOR A DUI!!!

What if that's not how it played out though? What if I was all tore up, got behind the wheel (thinking that I'm such a good drunk driver) and instead of getting 'popped' at one of these road blocks I smashed head on into your van.. killing everyone involved??

So, for those of you too simple minded to wrap your head around why they warn us... CONSIDER YOURSELF EDUCATED!

Poster 2:28......Don't be so stupid to consider yourself a good driver, and I quote "I consider myself a good driver, even under the influence". It's exactly THAT kind of thinking that gets innocent people killed. NO ONE should be operating a vehicle if they have had even the smallest amount of alcohol!

Listen 3:04, I agree with you 100 percent. It doesn't change the fact that it happens though. Thanks to warnings like this though.. at least I have changed my mind and that's the point PSP is trying to get across.

I have the perfect solution. If ya dont drink and drive ya wont have anything to worry about or complain about!!

Check points, sobriety or otherwise are illegal under the US Constitution. Our Veterans fought against this type of behavior in World War II by Nazi Germany.

Police and military across the USA are joining Oath Keepers - they will not comply with illegal orders - they do not want to become a modern day Gestapo.

Check out Oath Keepers on the Net. They are a great organization to become involved with.

You people that like to go out and party, etc....I don't begrudge you of that but let me tell you one thing...if you are drunk and get in an accident that hurts or kills one of my family members or friends...after we get through the law suits, etc. I hope that you go to jail and then rot in hell. I like to have my drinks too but guess what...I'm smart and stay home where if I get drunk the most I can do is fall down and hurt myself. Enoy your drinking but be smart about it...your drunkiness not only takes a chance with your life but it also takes the chance with an innocent persons life.

Who cares if Police have a DUI check point?? Those of us that follow the law and hope for the safety of our family should careless if we loose 5 min. of our time while law enforcement checks for drunk drivers.

If you disagree, or think that it violates your rights, then I could only imagine that you don't see the harm in driving drunk, which is one of the most selfish things a person can do. I agree with Andy, fall down at home or have a sober driver. End of story!! How people can argue aganist something that protects them and their familes is beyond me!

If you drink and drive, you're stupid, ignorant and the only concern you have is for yourself.

Linda (6:29),

Your post was interesting and I found more information here

Oath Keepers appears to claim check points are illegal under the Fourth Amendment (illegal search and seizure) but the supreme court has ruled them to be constitutional.

I would suspect the reason the supreme court did so is if you appear intoxicated when stopped, the police then have probable cause.

Probable cause for search is not required for the initial traffic stop.

I tend to agree with the law here.

Isnt anyone allowed to have a little fun around here anymore? Gotta reach that monthly qouta dont ya fellas. The cops around here are morons and have nothing better to do with their time. Potter County has gone down the drain and its only gonna get worse

who ever Linda is,,thanks for your opinion...a good lawyer and there are many of them will get you off..I don't agree with the checkpoints because it is a direct violation of the 4th...maybe we should have younger supreme court justices.I never heard of any job lasting a lifetime, but theirs does..Better check the bill of rights again hon and a petition has been circulated to get the high court to review their findings..before long it will be like a Nazi regime again if they aren't stopped..Just my opinion
