Were Voters Bamboozled In DA Primary Race In Potter County

The story posted recently about the DA's salary and the failure of the Commonwealth of PA to pay the share of it that they agreed to pay when making the DA's position full time instead of part time, has gathered several comments about the Primary Election.

Many voters expressed the feeling that they were deceived by Candidate Andy Watson who early in his campaign offered to do the job for about $100,000. less than Dawn Fink was being paid for the job.

Later disclosures indicated that Candidate Andy Watson would still expect the full pay, but would be willing to wait for the state reimbursement, to get the rest of his pay. When queried by the Leader Enterprise later in the campaign, he admitted he could not do that, as taxes and other deductions on the full amount would leave him with no pay left to take home. The newspaper also pointed out that legally he would be required to take the whole pay.

Many voters have questioned this as they voted based on the campaign promises of saving the county money. They didn't know Andy had reneged on the campaign promise. Now they feel they were bamboozled, to use a word from one of the comments. That commenter asked for a poll to see how many were influenced by that false claim in their vote.

Solomon's words has posted a poll for you, and you can provide the answer to that question.
Andy Watson won the primary election for DA on both parties effectively taking Dawn Fink off the November ballot. The margins were not that large, and many question if Andy would have won if Potter County voters had all known that they were going to have to pay him over $160,000.00 a year for the job, just the same as they would pay Dawn Fink if she were elected.

The poll is posted on the upper right side of the blue section. We await your response.

Is it me, or through out the entire campaign and now, anyone that is making a statement from the Watson team is disrespectful and rude (cupcake)! I have never read or heard anyone that is in support of Dawn Fink be any less than polite! Doesn't that speak volumes alone!!! We really want a DA that makes promises he knows he can't keep?? No plea's for child molesters?? That's impossible unless you plan on further damaging a child by forcing them to testify! Likewise, I can only assume that the rude Watson team members talk the way they do because that's the same attitude they get from the guys they want you to vote for!

This entire "poll" and posting screams sour grapes to me. Andy will be the only name on the ballot and that is the way it is.

Anonymous said...

wow!! i don't think that being lied to equals sour grapes. That equals pissed off!!

Anonymous said...

Welcome to politics.......Although I don't know Andy, I'm not convinced this isn't a twist on a comment such as "I'd do the job even if it paid 100K less" or some other such wording that was grabbed and ran with. Personally, I haven't heard anyone say that Andy promised to take less $. That's not to say it didn't happen, but ..........politics ....you can't believe the spin put on any of it.

Anonymous said...

Was Dawn sleeping through all of this or what? She should've been aware of the legal aspect of the salary.

Anonymous said...

dawn is not aware of anything that is why she is going bye bye

Anonymous said...

Anyone who really paid attention to the campaign knows that all of this was fully disclosed. The Leader did a good job of bringing it to light. In personal conversations with Andy he made it clear he was doing the job for the full salary, but was willing to wait to collect part of the pay if the Commonwealth didn't come through with its part of the funding. No surprises, and it's not an issue now.

Anonymous said...

Bamboozled? You bet!

I'm going to write in DA Dawn Fink!

Go Dawn - you may win on a write in.

Anonymous said...

Ummm, could it be another smear campaign for Dawn to "come back" and get voted in. You people wanted Leber out and Dawn stepped in. DO NOT be fooled again..get out to a criminal day at the courthouse..(every wednesday) and watch Dawn for yourselves in action, read want she is or isn't doing to put away criminals that YOU live around. AGAIN, properly inform yourselves about the facts...not what guys in HIGH places can do to get someone they like elected...example: Leader Enterprise and Dawn Fink's "friendship". Please don't believe that Andy would lie. He didn't he said HE WOULD be willing to let the county keep that money until the state paid it, this would leave that money to fund the other programs that do not get reimbursed by the state and in return do not get the money they need to kept running properly.

BTW Fink does NOT put child molesters away for longer than 90 days GO TO THE NEXT criminal days!!! See if she stands up to YOUR standards.

Anonymous said...

Um, I think that Dawn was aware of the legal aspects of the salary. That's why she never lied and said that she would take less.....

Anonymous said...

the previous comment brought to you by the potter leader enterprise....

reporting that's
"kinda fair and somewhat balanced on one side"

Anonymous said...

Sorry first poster!! I'm voting for Dawn and I have to say to 7:37 LIAR!!

Anonymous said...

With all do respect, how does this happen in Potter County?? Folks vote for a fellow that doesn't even have enough sense to know the law about the salary that he want's to make??

Wasn't it Jeff Leber and Andy Watson who were vocal about our Judge's sentencings?? How Dawn Fink is held accountable for a 90 day sentence for a child molester is beyond me?! That's the Judge, not the prior DA or the current DA!

Anonymous said...

Andy has always been a stand up guy for the 20+ years that I have known him! Winning is winning and politics is politics...
Fink needs to step back and take her loss like a woman and quit whining about it!

WATSON FOR DA!!!!

Does anyone writing comments have a name or does Mr and Mrs Anonymous have several relatives, all willing to verbalize whilst hiding behind the family moniker? I am waiting to be enlightened.

Does it really matter who the DA is in Potter County? What really matters is who the judge is. Thats why everyone should vote for Glassmire!!!!

Anonymous said...

Vote for Glassmire, ARE YOU SMOKING SOMETHING? You think we have problems, wait till ole' Danny boy gets in, it will all be screwed up then. If you want problems solved, and criminals put behind bars where they belong, VOTE FOR STEVE MINOR!!!!!!
Go Steve you have my vote..

Anonymous said...

Hey poster 8:20! News for ya, she isn't the one whining. It is the poor folks of Potter County who are whining because Mr. Watson has deceived them all ready and he is not even in office!
ANd poster 7:37, why don't you get some ****s and admit you are the crooked cop that is there on Wednesdays. Nice!!!!! For some reason you have had a problem with her since the beginning. Why is that? You are as crooked as they come.

Anonymous said...

Dawn Fink has shown nothing but class since the election. I'm writing her name in too!

Anonymous said...

After reading this it is no wonder potter county has the problems it does. I think the Watson team is reading this and they should comment. Why are we voting. The only vote that counts is coming up. But I do believe Andy should be able to defend himself. Andy when did you say you would be willing to wait for the state reimbursement, to get the rest of your pay? Was it after you won the primary or before. Lets hear it.
Speak now or lose my vote.

Anonymous said...

Congrats Andy. You still have my vote. All is fair in love, war, and politics.

Anonymous said...

Please SAVE our children not money. What is more important? WRITE IN DAWN FINK IN NOVEMBER.

Anonymous said...

WRITE IN FINK FOR DA!!!! I am!

Anonymous said...

I will be writing in Dawn Fink for DA because of an event that happened last year. I went through a terrible tragedy and she stepped up and went after the person in charge of what possibly could have saved a life.

Anonymous said...

PLEASE, Andy did not win JUST because he talked about the salary. If that were the case why didn't Ben Olney win. He said that he would save the County money.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't vote for Dawn Fink if Andy Watson revealed he's a nude belly dancer on the side.

amy said...

I will vote for Andy. If you want to look at wasting money look at how many cases Ms. Fink has retried because she couldn't let them be over.

Anonymous said...

This totally wreaks of "smear campaign" to me. It's not much better than something you'd find in the Leader Enterprise.

Anonymous said...

Good luck, Dawn, I also hope you get back where you belong as DA.
Get 'em, Dawn. Maybe with a different Judge you may do even better.

Anonymous said...

You know what...why don't these candidates come here and respond?

I'm tired of the same old "I have this experience and I'm unbiased, and I'll serve you the people...blah blah freakin blah".

What do you really stand for? That is what I want to know.

Whether Andy lied or not, it's quite obvious he was atleast deceptive and manipulative.

Please come here and explain Andy, because that's not what I want for DA.

I want a DA that will punish those that truly need to be punished...justice damnit! I'm not talking about 87 year old men who get harassed by sherriffs or 83 year old women in Roulette who defend themselves, I'm talking about the people who abuse our children and degrade our society each day. I'm talking about the crooks that each day get away with the same thing over and over.

Tell me Andy, what is your REAL stance on these issues? Answer this question, and don't give me a bunch of run-around generalized generic answers.

I want a fair DA, and that doesn't mean a DA that tries to hang everyone that comes to court. Every situation is different.

I want a Judge who truly is impartial...a Judge who gives the same sentence to a woman he would give to a man in the same situation, under the same circumstances. A Judge who will put child molesters where they belong, and put real criminals behind bars! A FAIR Judge!

Where are you Andy?

Where are you Dan?

Where are you Steve?

I want to hear from YOU!

Pennsylvania's constitution is more protective than the US constitution, although it cannot conflict with our US constitution. PA residents should be happy that their rights are protected by our Commonwealth so much more than by "states". Do you know how many commonwealths vs states there are in the USA? The judicial system that is in place is designed so that no one can abuse their power; beginning with the police, the district judges, the district attorney, and the common pleas judge. Not a single individual is the "end all and be all" of PA justice. It is up to the individual to understand their rights and progress through the court system, without fear, to get justice. Furthermore, elected officials cannot fear public criticism. Every case is unique and should be handled as such. The candidates can promise anything they want. They are still bound by the law that they swear to uphold.

I think I'm onboard the subway "poster 1:52" is on.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone remember the "debate". Andy was obviously very prepared, just as obvious that Dawn wasnt. The questions appeared loaded in Dawn's favor since some of them were written by her friends at the Leader Enterprise. Andy still did well and answered them better than Dawn.

So what if Andy said he wouldn't take the state portion of the pay. So what if he isn't allowed to do that. Is that his fault? Did he write that law?

What you have to think about is, do you want a DA that comes prepared to court or one that just flys by the seat of their pants.

That debate shows who prepares and who does not.

Vote for who you think will do a better job, not who you like better as a friend.

Anonymous said...

Ok poster 11:22 you do the same don't vote for Andy cause he's your friend!!! So what if Andy wouldn't take the state portion . . . the point is it is clear he talks out his a-- and if he doesn't know the laws he shouldn't be DA!

GO DAWN!

Cool Come ride the Subway. Alot of talk goes on in the morning when I'm riding from home to work. Its like going to the barber shop without the hair cut.

Nobody wins a write in.

So ask the President why he has lied to us. He's having a hard time keeping promises. The "YES WE CAN" What a joke.....

I was on the jury for not just ONE, but TWO of Dawn's cases last year. I don't see how she could have been any more prepared! She didn't miss a beat and asked the important questions. She was courteous to all parties. She gave a closing argument that was better than I've ever heard-even on TV and didn't use a note! It was obvious that she knew the case inside out. And I know this-if I was the defendant, I wouldn't want Dawn Fink prosecuting the case! I have no idea where this "unprepared" accusation is coming from, except that was one of Andy's campaign "slogans". Why not ask Judge Leete if Dawn is prepared for court? He should know!

Anonymous said...

While a poll may give us an idea about this issue, it is of course a very unscientific reading since there is no way to really know if people are telling the truth or are just "voting" for political purposes. In other words, what keeps Andy's supporters from saying "No, that's not the reason we voted for him", when it may indeed have been the reason! Same with Dawn. Really, perhaps the only way to get to the bottom of this is to have the newspapers research this and write another article that includes interviews with quotes from the candidates. The radio people should pick up on it too, as should Solomon's Words.Of course, even then, Andy can do a lot of back-pedaling on what he said vs. what he MEANT to say. Perhaps better yet, the media should re-run the original articles so we could see exactly what Andy promised and what happened to that promise. This is an important job that touches a lot of people. There is no room for a DA to be dishonest or deceitful, in my opinion.

I really appreciate the work of those who have put aside their differences to bring subway service to Potter County. You people all focus on our differences but once the subway begins service I hope you will give the credit where the credit is do! What are the timelines for this project?

Anonymous said...

If the Potter Leader was so pro
Dawn Fink why did they not endorse her? Dawn did a good job too bad she got a bum rap for protecting your rights,

Anonymous said...

I agree about Dawn protecting our rights. My niece got pulled over for no good reason, had NO alcohol on her breath and got dragged to the hospital for a blood test. From what I understand, this is just one or two "gestapo" cops--most of them are decent. Anyways, Dawn threw the case out because of the way the cop handled it. So I say -good for her! She has guts!

Anonymous said...

Actually, I am the poster that has encouraged people to attend the Wednasday criminal days in Potter County. I am not a police officer. Just thought I'd let you people know where you could go to watch one of the canidates. Since NONE of you went to the debate...ya wanna name. Why does that matter so that you can attack me personally for wanting someone in the DA's Office that will not let everyone in Potter County off with a slap on the hand. I would love to post my name, however, I do NOT want my family attacked for MY choices for DA. Just know that I WILL vote for Andy in November AND I am not a crooked cop, not even a straight one. Just know what I have seen in the courtroom and haven't been impressed.

Seems to me that Dawn's sister is the one running thigns in the DA's Office NOT Dawn. that's all. Thanks for listening to me voice my lovely opinion.

A. Poster at 5:41–if saying quit whining and suck it up cupcake makes me rude, then I’m rude–but no more so than anyone else has been in their posts, so I guess you’re just going to have to deal with it. You have NO IDEA whose “team” I’m on or if I’m just sick of listening to you whine about issues in which you don’t know the whole story. The point is, after listening unbiasedly to both candidates at the poor excuse for a “debate” sponsored by, you guessed it, the Potter Leader Enterprise, and yes with questions seemingly “loaded” in Ms. Finks favor, Mr. Watson appeared more prepared, more knowledgeable, and more committed, especially to removing pedophiles and drug dealers from the community. Mr. Watson was able to cite facts and case law to back up everything he said, and Ms. Fink jokingly asked “do we have to do this today?” and fumbled her way through. Just MY OPINION...you know...that thing to which, constitutionally, we’re all entitled. You were not at the interview where Mr. Watson made his position known (and have no clue as to whether what he said was manipulated, comments were omitted, embellished, or “edited”) anymore than you were there when Ms. Fink was interviewed. When you have some bona fide evidence come back and back up what you’re saying. Otherwise, remember there is a VERY FINE LINE between opinion and slander or liable.

B. Poster at 9:36 –re-run an obviously biased article? That will help how? Oh yeah, to endorse the smear campaign you’re attempting to facilitate on Ms. Fink’s behalf and she’s allowing it. This way, she can keep her hands clean and look like the innocent and injured party. How convenient.

C. Poster at 9:39 –the Potter Leader Enterprise didn’t blatantly endorse her because they are NOT ALLOWED...newspapers, in spite of the editors’ personal opinions, are supposed to remain unbiased. A fact that apparently means little in Potter County.

To the person who posted at 5:41, a child’s testimony will never be easy in molestation or abuse case. Its simply not possible. But it is, unfortunately, necessary. As many concessions are made and steps are taken to make the testimony as gentle as possible, such as closed circuit video, but there is no way to sugar-coat the impact the incident had on the child, regardless of who is DA. What would you suggest ? A don’t ask, don’t tell policy? Play this scenario in your head once or twice: Your child has just been molested. The only thing that can put the person responsible in jail is your child’s testimony. You chose not to allow it, and the low life repeats his/her crime with someone else’s child. How do you feel now?

Anonymous said...

Hey poster 8:43 - it is clear now what end your talking out of (your a**)! Dawn's sister does not work in the DAs office. Get a life.

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately, what has been raised as a legitimate and serious concern to voters is now being side-tracked with personal attacks, foolish statements and falsities. Andy's announcement quote has now been re-printed above and based on what I know now: THAT HIS "PLAN" WOULD NEVER HAVE SAVED THE COUNTY ONE DIME, AND 2: THAT IF HE KNEW THE LAW LIKE HE SHOULD HAVE, HE WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT HIS OFFER IS NOT ALLOWED. What else do we need to know?? I'm writing in DAWN FINK!

Anonymous said...

Sawn was there protecting the citizens from questionable police tactics and the average voter did't
even have a clue, Pray that Andy protects your rights but I doubt it.

Anonymous said...

9:32 No! A childs testimony is not always needed. The point here is that Mr. Watson claims that there will be no pleas for such charges is incorrect. In some cases (not all) having a child testify only does futher damage.

Knowing the law and the emotions of victims is all a part of the system. He's making a promise he can't keep.
