CCMH Safety Officer Receives Fellowship Grant

Lucy Lajcsak, patient safety and compliance officer at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, received an educational grant from the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management.

The scholarship will be used for tuition costs for the 2009-10 American Hospital Association’s Patient Safety Leadership Fellow program; Lajcsak was selected as one of 12 participants in the fellowship program which includes members from across the U.S. and Canada. The Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship is sponsored by the American Hospital Association and the National Patient Safety Foundation, in partnership with the Health Research & Educational Trust, Health Forum, the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, the American Organization of Nurse Executives, and the Society of Hospital Medicine.

The fellowship is a year-long leadership development program that provides leaders of hospitals, health systems and other health care organizations with skills necessary to shepherd patient safety change initiatives within their organizations. Now in its eighth year, the fellowship has supported approximately 250 leaders across the United States and Canada.

In the course of one year, fellows participate in three leadership retreats, complete self study modules, and engage in monthly conference calls. Fellows also carry out action learning projects focused on safety and quality improvements in their home institutions, in which they apply skills and knowledge acquired through the fellowship program.

The ASHRM Foundation is a personal membership group of the American Hospital Association in cooperation with the Health Research and Education Trust of the AHA. The foundation helps facilitate the advancement of the health care risk management profession by funding scholarships, education grants and research.
