Bud Hoover photo

Drivers Identified

State Police have identified the drivers involved in the near head-on crash Friday morning on Lynn Hall Hill in front of the Lookout on Route 6, west of Port Allegany, PA.

Paul R. Jackson, 57, Coudersport, PA., suffered a major injury, and was lifeflighted to Altoona General Hospital for treatment. Jackson was traveling east on Route 6, attempting to negotiate a right hand curve, when his 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier crossed into the oncoming lane, striking a westbound tractor trailer hauling wood chips.

Jackson was extricated from his vehicle by volunteers from Star Hose Co. #1, and transported to a landing zone by Port Allegany Ambulance, where he was transported to the trauma center in Altoona. He was attended by Coudersport ALS.

Witnesses on scene reported that Jackson was blinded by the sun as he came around the corner at the crest of the hill. He struck a 1999 Freightliner tractor trailer, driven by Michael P. Schultz, 30, of Shinglehouse, PA. Schultz was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. His truck sustained major damage to the tractor portion of the rig.

Route 6 was closed in both directions for hours. Troopers said Jackson will be charged with Roadways Laned For Traffic.

Who cares about what he was charged with blah blah blah when reacting to this tragic event?
This is a fellow human being seriously injured and let's keep things in perspective.

What difference does that make? Does that make the accident less severe or somehow deserved?

What the heck kind of charge is that?
" Jackson will be charged with Roadways Laned For Traffic."

PA's legislators, in spite of all the time they spend in Harrisburg and all of our tax dollars they spend, have trouble with the simplest things. If you leave your lane of traffic and crash, you will be charged with 'Roadways Laned for Traffic' . If you speed, you will be charged with 'Driving at Safe Speed'.
