Dave S Sent This Along From HIs Email

This is a real wake-up call in our "card paying" age....

It happened at Wal-Mart (Supercenter Store #1279, 10411 N Freeway 45, Houston, TX77037 a month ago. I bought a bunch of stuff, over $150, & I glanced at my receipt as the cashier was handing me the bags. I saw a cash-back of $40. I told her I didn't request a cash back & to delete it.

She said I'd have to take the $40 because she couldn't delete it. I told her to call a supervisor. Supervisor came & said I'd have to take it. I said NO! Taking the $40 would be a cash advance against my Discover & I wasn't paying interest on a cash advance!!!!!

If they couldn't delete it then they would have to delete the whole order. So the supervisor had the cashier delete the whole order & re-scan everything! The second time I looked at the electronic pad before I signed & a cash-back of $20 popped up. At that point I told the cashier & she deleted it. The total came out right. The cashier agreed that the electronic pad must be defective. Obviously the cashier knew the electronic pad was defective because she NEVER offered me the $40 at the beginning.

Can you imagine how many people went through before me & at the end of her shift how much money she pocketed?

Don't they only do cash back for debit card transactions and not usually credit?

If so, it should come out of your checking account and there should be no interest payment.

If you do get cash back from a CC, you should be able to pay it back early and not accumulate interest (at least under any CC I have had).

I think you are missing the point of the story. He DID NOT request cash back either time. If he hadn't looked at the receipt while at the register he would have been out the $40 and someone would have been $40 richer.

It's false and has been circulating the internet for a few years now.

...and just maybe her drawer would have been over at the end of the day. There are still honest people out there and there is a "bright side"

When I use my card it always asks if I want cash back on the key pad..

You just never know though that false or not that is a real easy way for someone to pocket money and have there drawer balance at the end of the day so watch out ppl check your slips

But if you read, the cashier can't even initiate the cash back. The customer has to on the keypad.

Same thing happened to me at a Friendly's in the Arnot Mall. Unfortunately I didn't notice it until I was already home.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I heard the same story, except the cashier had a hook on her foot.

Apparently no one is paying any attention to the post at 1:36 PM which refers to snopes! When I received this email I also checked it on snopes. IT IS FALSE!!!!!!! So is the Claim about Friendly's!!!! It is good to get warnings about scams when they are true...BUT... before sending such emails on to friends, they should be checked out..and this one is FALSE!!!!!!!

I have been asked at several stores if I want cash back and the cashier has to put it in the register for me to get it. So the cashier can initiate it on their own. Also I think the article said that he would get a cash advance fee. That is different than paying interest. It is an instant charge.

How does anyone know it's actually false? It could have been passed along ten times before it was ever recorded in snopes.

That doesn't mean it's not true.

Either way, it's quite likely that this type of thing does happen somewhere. There are always people looking to take advantage of the system.

As far as Wal-Mart, it seems we have some people intent on giving them a bad name here.

I'd think the Wal-Mart employment policies alone are enough to give them a bad name. The pay their employess next to nothing, and limit their hours to part time so that they don't have to pay benefits.

Why do you think we have a health care crysis in this country?

Wal-Mart claims that they benefit local economies by providing jobs, but the fact of the matter is that every job they produce pays less than the jobs Wal-Mart has replaced.

Lets not even mention the fact that most everything in Wal-Mart is from China.

Don't sell your soul to Wal-Mart!

Well, folks here's a true one, Back in the summer Wal-Mart had strawberries on sale they were to be 1.99 per container.I purchased 2. At the check-out they rang up over $3 per. container. I told the cashier and she did void it but how many others did not notice..If something like this happens to you and if you have a couple extra minutes to spare..Question the clerk Wal-Mart use to have a policy. If an item is mischarged you get $2 off that item.

Snopes is run by no more than a couple of questionable character, and politically liberal. While some of their information may be correct, it is not THE END ALL OF TRUTH.

Any proof for that claim 8:44am? I'm sure not. Oh maybe Fox News edited a bunch of old video footage together to get you to believe it.

Wow, some people are amazing and what they will believe.
