Medicare Open Enrollment Underway; Field Visits Scheduled

medicarelogoThose who receive Medicare or are considering applying for it should take note of some important dates in the coming days. Medicare plans adjust their cost and coverage, so recipients would be wise to review their plans and compare them to others. Those who don’t have prescription drug coverage can also enroll in a drug plan during open enrollment. Some beneficiaries may see significant premium increases or changes – such as reduced coverage in the “coverage gap” – if they stay in the same prescription drug plan in 2010. Open enrollment is now open and closes on Dec. 31. There are four ways to review and compare plans:

  • Call 1-800-633-4227 for 24-hour help available from trained Medicare representatives.
  • Visit a website, Compare costs, coverage and more. Get an estimate of your out-of-pocket costs for the year.
  • See the listing of plans in your Medicare & You handbook and information sent by plan providers.
  • Talk with local Medicare experts at the Potter County Area Agency on Aging (see schedule below)

To assist Potter County residents, Area Agency on Aging representatives are making field visits. They are available to answer questions, compare Medicare plans, and enroll beneficiaries. Remaining schedule is as follows: Thursday, Nov. 19, Galeton Senior Center, 10 am to 2 pm; Friday, Nov. 20, Coudersport Senior Center, 10 am to 2 pm; Tuesday, Nov. 24, Potter County Human Services, Roulette, 10 am to 3 pm. Additional dates will be announced.

Medicare beneficiaries should bring a Medicare card, Medical Assistance (ACCESS) card, PACE or PACENET card, all insurance cards and a list of all medications being taken, including dosage. Additional information is available from Darcy Shutt at Potter County Human Services, 814-544-7315 or 1-800-800-2560. Potter County Today
