43 Year Old Hunter From Hunker, PA Found Dead Near Coudersport

Sudden Cardiac Death

A 43 year old man from Hunker, PA (near New Stanton, southeast of Pittsburgh) was found dead Sunday in Potter County where he was muzzleloader hunting on a hunting lease in Hebron Township.

John Patrick Welch, 43, of 2002 Shaye Ct., Hunker, PA, went into the woods  to hunt, off Dry Run Road in Hebron Township, on Saturday, Dec. 26 th. When he did not return from hunting, a friend contacted Olean, NY City Police to report him as a missing person. He was staying in Olean while hunting near Coudersport.

State Police at Coudersport were notified on Sunday as Welch was known to be a member of a hunting lease in the Dry Run Area. Troopers searched the remote area for most of the day and were subsequently assisted by members of the hunting lease, in a search for Welch's truck which was found on the property.

The area was searched and Welch's body was located about 2 miles from Dry Run Road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Potter County Coroner Kevin Dusenbury on Monday, Dec. 28, 09 at 12:40 am. He had apparently died of a sudden cardiac death.

Several Coudersport troopers were involved in the search, along with friends and fellow members of Mr. Welch's hunting lease. Trooper Glenn Drake, II was in charge of the investigation.

Actually, it IS Jackie's brother as well as Mo's and Kathy's. He will be sadly missed. This poor family has more than it's fair share of heartbreak and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time!
