Claire Marie Martin Smeigh, 91, of 25 Bon Air Ave., Bradford, PA

Claire Marie Martin Smeigh, 91, of 25 Bon Air Ave., Bradford passed away Tuesday, December 29th, 2009.

Born December 14, 1918, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Clifford James and Florence A. (Cotton) Martin.

On September 22, 1943 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bradford she married Paul Gerald "Jerry" Smeigh who died on July 6, 1981. Mrs. Smeigh still resided in the home that she and her husband built 1948.

Mrs. Smeigh was a 1936 graduate of Bradford High School and a graduate of the Bradford Hospital School of Nursing. During World War II she worked as a nurse's aid at the Bradford Hospital. Later she worked as a private secretary for the Matson family.

She was a member and a past Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church.

She had volunteered her time at the Community Outreach Program, Red Cross Bloodmobile, BRMC Auxiliary, Bradford Ecumenical Home Auxiliary, March of Dimes, and at the McKean County Crippled Children's Clinic. She had been on the Board of Directors and was a member at the YWCA, former member of the Pennhills Club, Valley Hunt Club, Parent Teachers Association, and the YMCA's Swim Team boosters and the Bradford High School Swim Club Boosters.

Mrs. Smeigh is survived by a daughter, Pamela Ann (Peter J.) Digel, of Smethport, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Gloria Martin Rausch and one brother, James Clifford Martin.

Family will be receiving friends on Saturday, January 2, 2010, from 10:00AM to 11:00AM in the First Presbyterian Church, at 11:00 AM funeral and committal services will be held with Rev. W. LeRoy Beckes, Pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
