MILLPORT, PA-----Mary Ann Serkleski, 64, of Eleven Mile Road, Millport, PA, died Saturday (December 26, 2009) surrounded by her loving family in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, after a lengthy illness.

Born May 29, 1945 in Olean, NY, she was a daughter of Homer L. and Elsie M. Appleby Wheeler. On June 12, 1963 in Shinglehouse, she married Donald L. Serkleski, who survives.
Mrs. Serkleski attended Oswayo Valley High School. She was employed part-time for several years for a cleaning service, but her full-time job was being a wife and mother, raising four children and three foster children.

She was a member of Chrystal United Methodist Church in Chrystal. She had formerly served as a Boy Scout den mother and Girl Scout leader. She was a life member of the former Shinglehouse Ladies Firemen’s Auxiliary where she had held the offices of secretary and president. She was also a member of Tri-County and Allegany County Auxiliary. One of the most important aspects of her life was taking care of her friends and family in need, whether it was a ride, a place to stay, or someone to talk to.

Surviving besides her husband is her mother of Shinglehouse; one son, Donald A. (Roxanne) Serkleski of Millport; three daughters: Donna M. (Philip) Lingenfelter of Kane, and Connie L. Serkleski and Julie A. Serkleski, both of Millport; four grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Brittany, Brooke, and Brandon Serkleski, all of Shinglehouse, and Jamie Lingenfelter of Kane; three foster children: James A. “Tiger” Hayes, Patrick F. Freeman, and Casey L. Freeman; three brothers: Barry L. (Nora) Wheeler of Bolivar, NY, Danny M. Wheeler of Shinglehouse, and Howard M. (Jan) Wheeler of Ashville, NY; two sisters, Kimberly R. (Rod) Dickerson of Millport and Sandy C. (Ryan) Welty of Clinton, Utah; six nephews; nine nieces; and many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, Mrs. Serkleski was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Anna, Christopher, and Matthew Lingenfelter; a sister, Penny L. Tompkins; a niece, Jessica L. Dickerson; and a nephew, Andrew Wheeler.

Friends may call at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from 11 a.m. to noon at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Fred Kemp, pastor of the Portville Baptist Church, Portville, NY, officiating.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Sweden Valley Manor Patient Activity Fund, 1028 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.
