Reminds me of this lady: http://www.walletpop.com/blog/2009/10/16/fake-lotto-winner-causes-riot-at-burlington-coat-factory/

She said she won 1.5 mil in the lotto and went to Burlington Coat Factory and told the people there they could buy anything they want up to $500 and she would pay for it.

She maxed out her card ($5k) and left the store and the remaining people with stuff that was still unpaid for trashed and looted the place because they didn't get the free stuff that was owed to them.

I think those people who trashed the store are selfish and ignorant.

How do they even think anything was owed to them?

There is a Motto, if it sounds to good to be true, then it probibly is.

I hope some of them went to jail for acting like ignorant, selfish idiots!

Does Mr. Wizzik have anything to say about this?

If the woman was wealthy and tired of having her money all to herself and wanted to spread a little Christmas cheer, what's wrong with that? Now her family gets involved, claims she must be insane, why? Because they weren't getting the "spoils", so to speak?

You are ignorant poster 10:38...tell me if it was your mom or dad you wouldn't be concerned about giving their money away?

This story about Burlington Coat Factory. These low end stores look trashed so it would be hard to tell if it was really done by mad customers.

I just have to ask why? Does the state have to involve themselves over someone legally giving away their own money. This woman had wealth and she was lonely. The only crime she committed was leaving the dogs in the house with no heat. What makes her really insane about giving free donations out to who she wanted to give them to other then a charity? So what if she wanted to spend her money. It is better to give to someone willing then for the state to take it after her death. I believe the Police were wrong in committing her into a mental hospital. They have Old Folks Homes and Manners for Elderly not Insane Asylums. This just shows you how the Police think. If it does not Benefit them then it is Wrong and they Pursue it to Prosecute it. I would like to say Happy Holidays to the Elderly Woman and Screw the people who take the only happiness away from her by committing her. You should feel bad for your decisions.

I agree with 10:38, the kids want the money !!!!
I'm a retired counselor from working with the elderly and 95% of their kids are worried about the money they want inherited to them when Mom and or Dad when they die. Sad to say but it is the truth, I've seen toomuch of it, there are some case where it is not like this but if you only knew what goes on in alot of cases, it would make you sick !!!

I do not have enough information yet to make an educated remark about this.

Who deemed this woman to be mentality ill exactly? What methods did they use in making this determination?

Until I know what grounds they have to take this woman's freedom away I can only assume that as 2:03 said, the family is worried she's giving away the inheritance.

The most sane person can be committed easily if enough people say their insane.

If they based her mental incompetence on the mere fact that she is giving away her money, then that is illegal and they should be charged for kidnapping if you ask me, but until I know what evidence they have to substantiate their claim that she is mentally ill, I cannot say anything for sure.

I will certainly be investigating this matter.

Poster 11:34. If I am ignorant, so be it. I would rather have my parents around than to look at them as one big dollar sign. "For the love of money is the root of all EVIL"

My parents have built themselves a very nice nest egg through hard work, good financial decisions and not being careless or impulsive with their spending. My sisters and I all agree and have told my retired parents to SPEND their money how every they want, its theirs, they built, saved, scrimped and whatnot to have it. I am not talking about millions here, but enough for 2 people in their mid 70's to live fairly comfortable. I have told them time and time again that its THEIR money, you can't take it with you when you go. If this woman wanted to spend HER money then that is her right! If her children are so hard up that they want control of her finances, they will stop at nothing to get it. If the woman in question does have a history of mental challenges, then maybe a "trustee" is needed. Just my 2 cents worth.

Ok so the woman gives all of her money away. Who is going to take care of her and make sure she does not go without the proper medical care? Oh yeah, her children. I'm in my 60's and would hope my children would look after my interests and not watch me give my money away.

I'm sure the lady has a good medical insurance plan...
We do not know everything involved here and Mr. Wizzik will keep us updated but I have worked with the elderly for yrs and in a lot of cases, the kids worry about how much money they will have coming to them when their parents pass on. I'm curious myself, who claims this lady is mentally ill. Was it all done legally or underhanded ?

The whole thing is just really sad...Merry Christmas Mrs. Clause wherever you are this holiday...my prayers go out to you and your family!

Mr. Wizzik said...

I'm still working on it.

Hard to do anything on Christmas Eve.

But, Merry Christmas everyone, and as 12:45 said, Merry Christmas Mrs. Claus wherever you are this holiday!

ECO, the Police put her where they are told to put her. There is a system and the Police are part of it. You can't point at Law Enforcement for everything that you think is unjust. Their hands are tied sometimes and they have to rely on others to make the right decisions in such cases.

I'm glad my Dad didn't put her name and address out there like some others did! When she does get home, there will be all kinds of people scoping her out! Brad

You sure have a good point 12:22. when or if the poor little thing does go home, someone needs to be with her for her safety....
The family needs to find a good, responsible & trustworthy caregiver to watch over her !!!
