Souderton, PA---Anna E. Adams Childs, 87, of Souderton, formerly of Shinglehouse, and Olean, NY, died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Lehigh Valley Medical Center, Allentown, PA.

Born September 11, 1922 in Phoenixville, PA, she was a daughter of Frank D. and Elsie Ettinger Bechtel. On September 2, 1939 in Collegeville, PA, she married Paul M. Adams, who died on February 6, 1984. On June 23, 1990 in Obi, NY, she married Carl O. Childs, who died on November 15, 2003.

Mrs. Childs was a member of Perkiomenville Mennonite Church in Perkiomenville, PA and a former member of Obi Community Church in Obi, NY for over 20 years where she also was organist. She was active in Gideon’s International in Olean, NY. She enjoyed gardening and artistic endeavors. She sang duets with both of her husbands for various occasions and composed some music. Anna loved hunting and was a longtime active member of the Limerick Archery Club in Limerick, PA.

Surviving are three daughters: Barbara (Robert) Smith of Royersford, PA, Sandra Moyer and Rebecca (Greg) Long, both of Perkiomenville; a son-in-law, Carl Sottolano of Shinglehouse; six stepsons: Jim (Rhea) Childs of Bolivar, NY, Philip (Sunny) Childs of Canisteo, NY, Steve (Sis) Childs and Rick (Tonia) Childs, both of Bolivar, NY, Brian (Kelly) Childs of Franklinville, NY, and Gary Childs of Cumberland, Maryland; two stepdaughters: Pam (Brent) Howard of Cuba, NY and Deena (Chris) Holcomb of Portville, NY; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Childs was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Sottolano; two sisters, Verna Jones and Mildred Deery; a brother, Donald Bechtel; and a son-in-law, Robert Moyer.

Friends may call on Sunday, January 17, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Obi Community Church, Obi, NY where funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. David M. Cook, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Bell Run Cemetery, Shinglehouse, on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Perkiomenville Mennonite Church, PO Box 59, Perkiomenville, PA 18074 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
