Shirley Prouty, 77, of Gaines, PA

Shirley Prouty, 77, of Gaines, PA, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Williamsport Hospital.

Born July 21, 1932, in Elmira, NY, she was a daughter of Sanford Ernie and Edna (Ripley) Robinson.

She was a 1950 graduate of Gaines High School and attended Houghton College.

On April 19, 1952, she married Kenneth Prouty of Gaines. Shirley and Ken owned and operated the Kenshire Kampground in Gaines for 37 years, retiring in 2009.

She was a member of the Valley Alliance Church in Ansonia, the Gaines Kitchen Band, the Galetones, the Gaines Elk Council of Republican Women, the Gideons International, and the Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 57 years, are two sons, Wayne (Deborah) Prouty, Galeton, Bradley (Sharon) Prouty, Mansfield, PA; two daughters, Sylvia Prouty, Gaines, Rhonda Bryington, Montana; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call at Hess Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Collins Chapel, Galeton, on Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 2:00–4:00p.m.and from 6:00-8:00p.m, and on Sunday, January 17, 2010, at the Valley Alliance Church in Ansonia from 1:00–2:00p.m. with a Funeral Service immediately following. Shirley’s son, the Rev. Bradley Prouty, will officiate. Interment will be made in Phoenix Cemetery, Gaines.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International to help supply Bibles.
