Marion G. Van Etten Brooks, 93, a longtime resident of Westfield, PA, and recently of Elkland, PA

Marion G. Van Etten Brooks, 93, a longtime resident of Westfield, PA, and recently of Elkland, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010.

Born February 9, 1917, in Harrison Township, PA, she was the youngest of six children of William and Sara English Van Etten.

A 1935 graduate of Harrison Valley High School, she earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Mansfield State Teacher's College.

On July 1, 1939, in Dansville, NY, she married Edwin L. Brooks of Westfield, PA. He predeceased her on April 24, 2000 after 60 years of marriage.

Marion began her teaching career in one room school houses in Elmer and North Fork. She was a longtime teacher in the Northern Tioga School District, teaching in the Westfield Township School, Knoxville School, and Westfield Borough School, retiring in 1979.

She and Ed spent several winters in Florida in the early years of their retirement. In later years, Marion enjoyed her Friday night card parties with her friends. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and teacher. She was a member of the Westfield First Baptist Church, OES Cowanesque Chapter #33, and Pennsylvania Assoc. of School Retirees.

Surviving are: a son, Robert (Mary) Brooks of Westfield; a daughter, Brenda (Bruce) Matis of Elkland; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, Russell Van Etten, Rex Van Etten, Mark Van Etten, and Rev. Dorr Van Etten; and a sister, Kathryn Van Pelt.

Friends may call Friday, February 26, 2010 from 2:00 -- 4:00 PM at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA, where Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM. Pastor F. Lewis Young will officiate. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

An Eastern Star service will be held 4:00 PM, Friday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 122 Church Street, Westfield, PA 16950 or to Laurel Hospice, 24 Walnut Street, Wellsboro, PA 16901.
