Statement from Congressman Glenn Thompson on the passing of Congressman Murtha

Statement from Congressman Glenn Thompson on the passing of Congressman Murtha

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jack's wife and family. This was a man who learned the lessons of service to country first as an Eagle Scout and then in service as a U.S. Marine. He continued that tradition as the longest serving U.S. Representative from the State of Pennsylvania. Sadly, I believe he approached that mark this week. He will be mourned and his expertise will be missed in the Commonwealth."

Rep. Murtha was a great man and he will be missed. I'm very saddened by his passing.

At one time he was a great man, but he passed over to the far left and defiled other Marines in battle with his anti-war venom spewing during the Iraq war.

I lost my respect for him when he said that Marines were killing innocent women & children in Iraq-with no proof of such atrocities ever happening.

He will not be welcomed into Marine Corps Heaven!

Ken --You are spot on with your comment on Murtha..
He has disrespected every Marine and service man that has fought to keep this country safe..
He flipped to where the money was as many others in DC do as well.
Marine Corps Heaven will get along just fine without him..

What happened in Haditha was a sad event.

Murtha (a veteran) shined light on the incident suggesting our Marines might be pressed a bit too hard in that area of Iraq (and they were).

The military fact finding mission proved what happened there and there is no real conflicting views by any authority on what events actually transpired.

Or maybe you just need to hear it from a Republican:
""Rep. John Kline (R-Minn.), a retired Marine colonel, said there was clearly an attempt to cover up the incident by those involved. But he said he did not think the Marine command was slow in investigating.

"There is no question that the Marines involved, those doing the shooting, they were busy in lying about it and covering it up -- there is no question about it," Kline said. "But I am confident, as soon as the command learned there might be some truth to this, they started to pursue it vigorously. I don't have any reason now to think there was any foot dragging."""

Somehow a (R) decided this was a great chance to trash a (D) and well... people repeat what they are told to think on TV and in the end some would like this guy remembered as hating the Marines.

Making it political spin and suggesting he somehow turned his backs on the Marines is just sad partisan trash and a flat out lie. He saw Marines in a situation he didn't think was right and challenged those that put them there.

Hint: Sometimes people in power don't like it when you question their competence or motives. They may even paint you to be the enemy just for asking questions. If your questioning a military situation, they just may try to make it look like you hate the military completely (YOU DON’T SUPPORT THE TROOPS!)…. even if your primary motivation was protecting the well being of troops in the field.

Learn some facts before you trash the man.

He was a Marine. The Marines motivated him to be the first Vietnam War combat veteran elected to Congress. He defended and supported Marines and all our troops his entire career on the Hill.

If idiots write history, his last big act, a patriotic one will try to be twisted into some terrible lie that this man doesn't deserve.

But by all means, don't let me stop your slandering the guy.

Good man. Will be missed.

2:15 AM Poster:

Since when is it honorable to vilify our combat troops during war time? You can try to paint this with your Obamaesque brush-but I for one will not miss this man who disparaged Marines when they were engaging the enemy.

War is hell-but since when is it supposed to be a fair fight? How many beheadings do we have to watch before you Libs get it? Never I would guess-don't ever wanna be in a foxhole with you pal!

Just because you say something is fact doesn't make it so-John Murtha was a great Marine at one time, I will agree with that-but bashing Marines at Haditha when we were still engaged with the enemy in mortal combat is enough for me-he turned Benedict Arnold & merits no respect from us other Marines.
