When most people consider those in the medical profession, they probably think foremost of doctors, nurses and dentists.

But what happens when there is an accident or a life-threatening illness far from those professionals? Who is there, on the spot, in all kinds of weather, any time of day or night, ready to help, comfort and possibly save a life?

We've all seen and heard the air ambulance helicopters and the ambulances with sirens wailing, racing toward that unknown somewhere and someone. But who is manning those vehicles? Who rides, not knowing what lies at the end of the journey, but ready to take charge and do all they can to alleviate any suffering they might encounter?

Brian Witherow of Olanta is one of those people who is there, in a flash, when the occasion calls for him. Paramedic for Stat MedEvac 9 ...........
