The newly formed Friends of Lyman Run group now has membership forms available to anyone wishing to join. This is a group of dedicated park users and members of the park's surrounding communities who have chosen to be involved in what is going on at Lyman Run State Park.

The Friends group will help organize volunteer corps of those people who would like to see beneficial changes made at the park to enhance the stewardship of the natural resources within the park and to help park visitors explore and discover the natural beauty that is Lyman Run State Park.

The group will work directly with Park Management and Staff to develop program and project areas that will help the Friends group achieve the goals and objectives set forth by the group in all areas of the park.

Friends group membership will allow you to have a voice in decision making at the park for those projects decided upon by the Friends of Lyman Run Board of Directors and Park Management. Some areas the group will be looking to develop are: Summer swimming lessons at the beach; A Women's program series ( 4 - 6 sessions during the summer); a wildlife monitoring program; a Walking/Hiking Club; and winter programs which include an ice skating area and a sledding hill.

Membership in the Friends of Lyman Run will include a discount on program fees and membership fees will also cover the cost of the annual newsletter and serve as a base for grant requests. Membership applications are available now at the Lyman Run State Park office, or by calling the park at (814) 435-5010, or by email at

Membership categories are: Individual - $10.00; Family (immediate members) - $20.00; Non-profit organization - $35.00; Supporting - $50.00; Business - $100.00; and Lifetime - $250.00. The Friends of Lyman Run is a chapter of the PA Parks and Forests Foundation (PPFF). PPFF is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Contributions to PPFF are tax deductible to the fullest extend of the law.

The official registration of the PA Parks and Forests Foundation may be obtained from the Pennsylvania Dept. of State by calling toll free within PA 1-800-732-0999.
