REED RUN ROAD CLOSED BY KEATING TOWNSHIP
Pennsylvania State Police are advising the public of a ROAD CLOSURE in Keating Township.

The Keating Township Roadmaster has issued a ROAD CLOSURE FOR REED RUN ROAD from the Roulette Township line to the intersection of the Odin Road. This is due to excessive ice buildup through out the winter.

ROAD CLOSED SIGNS
have been posted.

This closure will most likely be in effect until the spring thaw. Motorists are advised to STAY OFF THIS SECTION OF REED RUN ROAD UNDER PENALTY OF LAW.

Good! It's too expensive and time consuming to maintain that portion of Reed Run in the winter. People can use Odin or Bark Shanty if they want to "cut through".

has anyone driven RT 6 Galton side of Denton Hill? talk about rough roads.

Anonymous said...

Who's gonna enforce this.....The road master...I think not....

Anonymous said...

i go on it its not bad

Lets put it this way this way the "Road-master" may not be the one to enforce it, but if you get caught by the law enforcement don't whine and cry about the ticket you will acquire and the fine you will pay!!

I dirve it now and then and I don't find it much worse than rt 607 or 872 so why not just shut them down for the rest of the year...

we aint going to scrape your ass up if you go on it again !

big flashing sign CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION ROUGH BRIDGES AHEAD-- and yup, there rough.

i drive Rt 287 several times a month and the road is just crumbling away. and i meet many large trucks like never before in my dozen or so years of doing this.

they also have put several of those large holding tanks for water/drilling ventures below the Sawmill Ski area on Rt 287.

Our infrastructure in this country is deteriorating very fast due to the corruption in government both past and present. Keating Twp. has been plagued with this problem in the past few years, give these guys a chance. With one good plow truck why risk a major cost, by maintaining a road in the winter that no one lives on, if this truck is damaged on this road. Drive around, I do and slow down on the other roads also.

There should be some sort of literacy test that has to be passed to comment on sites like this. I see Forrest Gump is at it again...

Unfortunately, not everyone was born with the same abilities in spelling and grammar. Everyone is good at some things, and not so good at others. Harry has as much right to post on this site as any of you do.

If the Township receives liquid fuels money for this road they must maintain it and keep it open. That's why they receive the liquid fuels money in the first place.

Isn't it funny how everyone is so quick to tell others how to run things? Hmmm money?? What money?? The darn township has been run into the ground & broke; hence why new ppl were voted in. Give the new guys a chance to get things back in shape and quit whining.

with growing use of electric cars, there will be less "liquid fuel" money as people use less gasoline. taxes will have to be raised on something else to maintain the roads.

You are 100% correct! IF any tax payer in this township turns them in, there will be an audit for sure!

If you are talking about reed run from Rte 6 to the top,I think you need your head examined if you travel it in the winter months. especially after the snowmobiles go up and down it. you are just asking for the accident to happen. while I'm writing this, I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHERE ALL THE MONEY GOES TO FIX OUR ROADS UP HERE IN POTTER COUNTY? if you go down state they have road work going on all the time starting from spring til fall. WHAT ABOUT US??? we pay our taxes and we get very little.kiesse

A lot of us commercial vehicle owners are asking the very same question!

We pay even more for apportion registration, heavy highway use tax, unified carrier asso. tax, and fuel tax, what the heck is going on with all of this tax money? It should be maintaining the roads in our counties!

Don't hold you breath that the new guys are going to do it either. Its been 2months going on three and I haven't seen anything change.

Fact: There are NO residences, neither permanent nor transient, on this section of road. This qualifies this road, under Penn DOT guidelines as a "No Winter Maintenance" road. By qualifying for this status, none of the townships are required to plow, cinder or maintain this road during the winter months.
I do know that the Roulette Township Supervisors authorized, a few years back, plowing and cindering of their section of the road, after all other roads had been taken care of and if time permitted. The reason for this decision was two-fold. It was noted that people from the Austin area were utilizing Reed Run in the winter months to get back and forth from this area. By doing periodic winter maintenance on their section of roadway, it was determined that it would make that section safer for those motorists as well as safer for any emergency response vehicles that may have to travel it in the event of an accident. It was also determined that if the snow pack was kept plowed off occasionally, that the spring thaw would happen more rapidly, allowing the road to dry faster and cause less damage from rutting in the spring, as well as permitting spring grading to be feasible earlier than if it were not. Granted, Roulette Township's section of road is no where near as treacherous as Keating Township's section as there are less hills and curves, and as it would seem, Roulette is better equipped for said maintenance.
I have no clue what the financial / managerial / staffing situation is in Keating Township, but if they feel that closing that section of road will prevent people from having an accident and possibly injuring themselves or others, not to mention the jeopardy that a rescue would put the local emergency responders in, then good for them. I also know that for the last several years, they have put road closed signs at each end of their section of the road, that people moved and drove around. By publicly announcing it, they are removing themselves from potential liability that could otherwise result from people driving on this road. Sounds to me like the new board is trying to get things running in the right direction, but it takes time, sometimes years for this to happen. Especially if what I am reading here is even partially true regarding their present circumstances.
Give the poor guys a break and let them try to do the right thing. If you want to drive on it and risk your life, that is your choice, but remember that if something should happen, you are not risking the emergency personnel and their equipment as well. Try and think outside your narrow minded boxes for once, and think of what perils you may be causing others by your decision.

SpellCop?! Can I remind you of SEVERAL times that you have posted grammar corrections to other posts when in fact your own grammar was WRONG! That should have been enough to knock you down a few pegs and remind you that being the SPELLCOP is actually pretty pathetic! :)
