Richard W. Heap, 79, of 610 E. Delaware Ave., Olean, NY

OLEAN, NY - Richard W. Heap, 79, of 610 E. Delaware Ave., passed away Thursday (March 18, 2010) in Wellsville Manor Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

Born Dec. 10, 1930, in Eldred, PA, he was a son of Clifford and Albertina Higby Heap. On July 31, 1954, in Olean, he married the former Leta B. Dailey, who survives.

Mr. Heap worked for Olean Steel and Sales of Olean prior to retiring. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR, working on automobiles, racing stock cars, and most of all spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five sons, Richard E. (Bridget) Heap of Stafford, CT, Robert (Beverly) Heap of Caledonia, Frederick Heap of Salamanca, David (Helen) Heap of Port Allegany, PA, and Jeffery Heap of Olean; three daughters, Sarah J. Knight of Scio, Brenda (Mark) Dexter of Portville, and Lynn (Tony) Taglyavento of Hinsdale; 25 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Darius (Doris) Heap of Hume; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Michele Bova in 2007; a brother Frederick Heap; and a sister, Ramona Greene.

Friends may call the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 State Route 417, Olean, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday (March 22, 2010), at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Daniel Grimes, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Shinglehouse, PA, will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.
