Warren G. "Jim" Brown Jr., 87, of Farmers Valley, PA

FARMERS VALLEY, PA - Warren G. "Jim" Brown Jr., 87, of Farmers Valley died Saturday (March 6, 2010) peacefully at home.

Born Oct. 22, 1922, in West Kane, he was a son of Warren G. and Lottie M. Slater Brown Sr. On April 28, 1944, in Olean, he married Jennie Zremski who passed away Sept. 26, 1992.

Mr. Brown had attended school in Farmers Valley and had resided at the family homestead in Farmers Valley since 1934. He had worked on the family farm while growing up and later was a roustabout in the local oil field for many years. He was then employed by Kendall Oil Refinery in Bradford as operator of the wax plant, retiring in 1986. After his retirement he returned to farming and raising his Hereford cattle.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He loved and was an avid fly fisherman, tying his own flies. He loved and was an avid hunter of big and small game and personal gun smithing. Up until the time of his death, he enjoyed taking care of his Hereford cattle.

Surviving are daughter, Linda (David) Shick of Farmers Valley; grandchildren, David (Connie) Shick of Rixford, and Danette Swenson of Camby, ID; great-grandchildren, Andrew Shick and Ryan and Anna Swenson; brother, Robert (Pauline) Brown of Farmers Valley; sister, Jean Dunn of Williamsport; beloved nephew whom Mr. Brown was a mentor for, Richard Koeppel of Palm Bay, FL; and many other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers and six sisters.

Friends may call on Tuesday at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred, from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday (March 10, 2010) at 11 a.m. at the Frame Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Price of the Church of Christ in Derrick City. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport.

The family requests memorials to be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
