Causer & Rapp---Drill Baby Drill

Two local lawmakers confident oil and gas drilling on state forest lands right thing to do

Oil and gas drilling on state forest lands is a controversial topic in Pennsylvania, but the benefits to this region have two local lawmakers confident that it’s the right thing to do.

A bill has been introduced in the state House Majority Policy Committee in support of a five-year moratorium on additional leasing of state forest land for drilling in the Marcellus Shale region. The bill would require studies of the impact of drilling on public lands before the drilling could commence.

On Wednesday, state Rep. Martin Causer, R-Turtlepoint, and Rep. Kathy Rapp, R-Warren, both spoke out against the bill.

“This bill would be stifling development in areas like ours,” Causer said. “I think it’s the wrong approach. The bill is directed at areas like ours where we have large areas of state forest land. It specifically has an affect on Cameron and Potter where there’s a huge amount of state forest lands — 60 percent of the land in Cameron County and 50 percent in Potter County.” More...

55-60% of potter countys state forest is already available for leasing. On top of that, there is a ton of private ground already leased. Putting a 5 yr moratorium on leasing more acreage is not going to slow the development in the area. I commend Mr. Quigley on his stance and believe it is the only responsible thing to do at this point. Why not sit back and see what the impacts of the drilling are gojng to be before we jump in any further. We may find out that the impacts to our road systems, forests, streams and water quality may not be what we had hoped. Potter County is Gods Country for a reason, our large unbroken forest system, clean streams and wildlife. We need to be cautious that we don't ruin that.

Correction: "Potter County WAS God's country".

"Potter County- Oil Country"

God was pushed aside for the persuit of gas and oil!

I disagree with the position of our representatives.
We do need to have proper safeguards in place before drilling begins in earnest. Well pads will be every square mile & require supporting roads, pipelines & millions of gallons of water. DEP power is currently insufficient to monitor drilling.
New DCNR secetary John Quigley is to be commended on his stance supporting a drilling moratorium on state lands.
The gas will still be here underground at a later time.

Anyone care to review where the campaign contributions have come from? If you think Causer and Scarnati are not responding to those contributions and ignoring the public interest then you need to come over to come up the Oswayo South Branch to board the yellow submarine that is going to take the plunge soon. We'll save you a seat.

Causer, Scarnati and Rapp are THE BEST political representatives we could ask for. I trust that they are doing a great deal of investigation and research and would absolutely be willing to listen to opinions on both sides of the fence. So whether you support or disagree with their position, take some time to call or visit during their office hours. I really believe Marty, Kathy & Joe listen to those who elected them and represent us well.

Martin Causer, and Kathy Rapp are just two of many legislators across the country we have to thank for the US dropping from 39th place (2008) , down to 61st place (2010)on the Environmental Performance Index.Researchers at Columbia and Yale ranks 163 countries on how well they protect their people’s air, water, natural resources, and ecosystems.
Full steam ahead Causer and Rapp...in two year$$$ that would put us behind Nicaragua!

More like "Hell's Little Acre". Politics, money, elections. I am so appauled with Causer and Scarnat's actions and comments. I do not believe there is anything on their minds except re-election and dollar signs.
