George E. “Josh” Holding, 71, of Upper Portage Rd., Port Allegany, PA

PORT ALLEGANY- George E. “Josh” Holding, 71, of Upper Portage Rd., died Monday (Apr. 26, 2010) at his home, after a brief illness.

Born April 15, 1939, in Rochester, NY, he was a son of Thomas and Charlotte Davis Holding. On December 10, 1959, in Rochester, NY, he married Dianne M. Callahan, who survives.

Mr. Holding was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the US Navy in communications, for 22 years.

He also was employed with Apex Pest Control, Merritt Island, FL, for several years before his retirement.

He graduated from Edison Technical School, Rochester, NY, Class of 1956, and Orlando College with a Bachelor degree in Business Management.

He resided in the area for 3 years, coming from Florida.

He was a member of VFW, Post 6391, and American Legion, Post 258, both of Port Allegany. He was an avid outdoorsman and had traveled extensively with his wife worldwide.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Dianne, are a son, Edward T. Holding of Cocoa, FL; three daughters, Anne M. Burke of Melbourne, FL, Carrie L. (Michael) Turner of Eustis, FL, Charlotte L. Nelson of Roulette. PA; nine grandchildren, five great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Holding, William S. Holding; and a sister, Anne Wegman.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service in the Veteran’s Memorial Home, at 1 p.m. Saturday (May 1, 2010) with Tim Baker, officiating.

Memorials can be made to the Veteran’s Home, Port Allegany.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.

It was such a pleasure to get to know Josh in the last few years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. He will be missed. God bless you, Josh
