Wellsville, NY---Martha C. “Marty” Gorton, 82, of Wellsville, NY, formerly of Alma, died Monday, April 26, 2010 in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville, after a brief illness.

Born August 2, 1927 in Seneca Falls, NY, she was a daughter of Joseph S. and Mary I. Gardner Rotunda Sr. She was married to Walter L. Wolfe and later on September 23, 1967 in Clarksville, NY married Robert E. “Pete” Gorton who died on January 6, 2005.

She attended Waterloo (NY) High School. She was a nurses assistant and activities director at Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville, NY. Mrs. Gorton retired in 1997 from Wellsville Central School, where she took care of children with special needs, a job she did out of love to children. She was known as “Grandma” by the children.

Marty was a member of the Alma Volunteer Fire Department. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She loved antiques. She had a love for people and helping people.
Surviving are a son, Philip J. Wolfe of Seattle, WA: a daughter, Constance L. “Connie” (Paul, II) Trowbridge of Corfu, NY; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Gorton was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon M. Wolfe; a son, Marc C. Wolfe; a stepdaughter, Kathleen E. Gorton; a stepson, Robert E. Gorton, Jr.; and nine brothers and four sisters.

At Marty’s request, there will be no public visitation. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 6 Maple Avenue, Wellsville, at a date and time to be announced. Burial will be in Our Lady of Good Counsel Cemetery, Darien Center, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Care and Hospice, 118 North Main Street, Wellsville, NY 14895.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
