BRADFORD, Pa. — Twenty-three University of Pittsburgh at Bradford students were inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, the national honor society for first-year students.

To be chosen, students must be full time and have earned a minimum grade point average of 3.5 during the first term or first two semesters.

Inducted members include Barbara A. Allen, an elementary education major from Bradford; Jonathan Michael Andrews, a mechanical engineering major from Pittsburgh; Jonathan Blackman, computer information systems and technology major from Gifford; Tiara O. Brown, a sport and recreation management major from Pittsburgh;

Jacob M. Chastain, a biomedical engineering major from Port Allegany; John Eggleston, a writing major from Warren; Olivia Fernandes, an athletic training major from Erie; Ridge Foster, a computer information systems and technology major from Mars; BriAnne M. Gleason, an athletic training major from Bradford;

Ryan Hunter, a criminal justice major from Harleysville; Stephanie Makin, a criminal justice major from Colver; Sarah E. Monger, a math education major from Coudersport; Michael Moniger, biology and pre-medicine major from Carlisle; Nathan Neff, a sport medicine major from Butler; Sarah Lynn Rodenhauser, a sociology major from East Stroudsburg; Nathaniel P. Schoffstall, a psychology major from New Tripoli;

Sheri Rose Smay, a pre-nursing major from Mahaffey;

Jennifer Sobeck, a pre-pharmacy major from Harveys Lake; Perrey Ellen Spena, an undeclared major from Lincoln University; Alicia L. Steffan, a sport medicine and pre-occupational therapy major from Sheffield; Quoc Duy Vo, a pre-pharmacy major from Philadelphia; Wray Robert Woelfel, a pre-optometry major from St. Marys; and Jennifer R. Wonderly, a pre-nursing major from Ridgway.

Officers include Tiara Brown, president; Olivia Fernandes, vice president; Jonathan Andrews, secretary; and Quoc Duy Vo, treasurer. Outgoing President Kristine Zubler, a nursing major from Churchville, helped induct members.

Hope Ruffner, an accounting and business management major from Bradford, received the Maria Leonard Senior Book Award, given to the graduating college chapter member with the highest grade point average.

Dr. Holly J. Spittler, associate dean of student affairs and director of career services, and Isabelle Champlin, assistant professor of anthropology and director of international studies program, serve as group advisers.

Founded in 1942 at the University of Illinois, Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society recognizing and encouraging academic excellence among first-year students.

Today, Alpha Lambda Delta has over 240 chapters throughout the nation. Pitt-Bradford established its chapter in April 1988.
