CCMH Receives Environmental Award

CCMH Receives Environmental Award

Charles Cole Memorial Hospital received a Partner Recognition Award by Practice Greenhealth, a national membership organization for healthcare facilities committed to environmentally responsible operations.

The Partner Recognition Award is presented to healthcare facilities that have started to work on environmental improvements, achieved some progress, and have less than a 10 percent recycling rate for the total waste stream. The award is one of the organization’s environmental excellence awards given annually to honor outstanding healthcare achievements.

“Charles Cole Memorial Hospital has been singled out for its efforts to protect patient health and preserve the environment,” said Bob Jarboe, executive director, Practice Greenhealth. “Charles Cole’s approach to healthcare demonstrates a keen understanding of the impact our activities have on the environment and a commitment to build on the achievements they have made so far.”

“If we want a sustainable future, we need everyone to become involved,” said Trisha Galeotti, director, environmental services, CCMH. “We would not have been recognized with this award if everyone at Charles Cole had not worked together by recycling ink cartridges, rechargeable batteries, cardboard, paper, used cooking oil and, most recently, by adopting single stream recycling.”

CCMH’s recycling efforts expect to save the hospital in excess of $10,000 this year. The hospital was recently featured in Medical Waste Management newsletter for its recycling efforts.
