Emporium Woman & Child Injured In Rollover Crash On Moore Hill Road

Vehicle's Brakes Failed
An Emporium driver and her 2 year old passenger suffered minor injuries after the brakes failed on their 1998 Civic Thursday evening at 7:20 pm.

Desirae C. Reider, 30, of Emporium and her passenger Payton E. Reider, 2, Emporium, PA, were transported to Elk Regional Health Center in St. Mary's by Emporium EMS Ambulance.

The crash occurred as the Civic was traveling north on Moore Hill (Route 3001) when for unknown reason, the brakes failed. The vehicle traveled off the roadway striking several fixed objects prior to overturning down an embankment on the right shoulder of the roadway.

An investigation is continuing according to troopers, and charges will be filed through District Court 59-3-01. Both driver and the child were restrained by safety belt and car seat.

Emporium Fire Dept. and EMS assisted at the scene.

Growing up, I used to live on top of Moore Hill. Once I started driving, it always scared the life out of me that my brakes would go on that road. It is straight down. I am glad she is OK!

I am also curious as to why she is being charged. It's not like you'd asked for your brakes to go out???

The usual traveling at a safe (unsafe) speed I bet. You should always be going slow enough that when your brakes fail you can stick your foot out the door and stop the car. If you can't then your driving at a unsafe speed.

I bet they are still investigating if the brakes went out or if something else caused the wreck which would then warrant her being charged.

well somebody has to pick up the bill for that troopers time, i mean he could've been at sheetz hitting on the girls who work there like they normaly are.

Charges for "WHAT" In Pa you never want to have any kind of accident or you will be guilty of either driving an unsafe car or driving to fast. But you can bet if a trooper had an accident it will most likly be blamed on something that is not chargeable. How else are they going to pay for their donuts and coffee. I am sure that this Mom did not want her brakes to go out while her child was in the car. I pray that they will be OK..

Just be glad they don't take you out behind the barn and shoot you for doing something wrong.

I know Ms. Reider and she would never do anything that would hurt her daughter.. so they should leave her alone
