Pearl Bowers, 83, of Barrett Avenue, Port Allegany, PA

PORT ALLEGANY, PA - Pearl Bowers, 83, of Barrett Avenue died Tuesday (May 11, 2010) at Select Specialty Hospital in Erie following a brief illness.

Born Dec. 28, 1926, in Troupsburg, N.Y., she was a daughter of Lee E. and Twila Burton Tyler. On March 1, 1946, in Port Allegany Evangelical United Brethern Church, she married Clyde J. Bowers, who passed away Feb. 13, 2006.

Mrs. Bowers was a graduate of Port Allegany High School and she had lived nearly all her life in Port Allegany, coming there to live with her grandparents LeRoy and Alice Burton in 1939.
She had been employed for six years at Sylvania Electronics as a quality-control inspector. She was later employed for four years for the district justice in Port Allegany and for 40 years, she worked as a private secretary for the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 460, retiring in 2001.
She attended Sartwell Creek Union Church. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing, roller skating, camping and traveling. In her later years, she enjoyed her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are one son, Clyde "Butch" (Karen) Bowers of Port Allegany; three grandchildren, Michael (Tonya) Bowers, Denise (Jason) Campbell and Mark Bowers, all of Port Allegany; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Bowers, Tori Campbell and Seth Bowers; three brothers, Lee Tyler and Donald (Pat) Tyler, both of Eldred, and Kenneth (Gloria) Tyler of Great Falls, Mont.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Taylor.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Sartwell Creek Union Church at 11 a.m. Saturday (May 15, 2010) with the Rev. LaVerne Howard officiating.

The family requests memorials be made to the Port Allegany Library.
