Potter County PennDOT Employee One Of 27 Honored For Excellence

PennDOT Honors Star of Excellence Recipients
Agency Recognizes 27 Employees across the Commonwealth

Clearfield – PennDOT Secretary Allen D. Biehler, P.E. announced today that 27 employees received a Star of Excellence Award, including two from District 2.
Kim Martin and Mike Bennett were honored this afternoon at an awards luncheon at the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg.

PennDOT District 2 Executive, Kevin Kline noted, “Kim and Mike are excellent examples of employees striving to stretch resources and dollars to the maximum. We are tasked with such challenges every day. In taking on those challenges, Kim and Mike each exceeded the standard for the Star of Excellence award”.

Kim Martin is a Roadway Program Manager in PennDOT’s District 2 office. Kim is intimately involved in making the most of scarce resources and helps to oversee District 2’s $103 million dollar maintenance budget and a $5.85 million inventory. Kim’s management has resulted in cost savings in the areas of purchasing, budgeting, cost accounting and inventory management.

Mike Bennett is a Highway Equipment Manager in Potter County. Mike strives to be on the leading edge as he looks for ways to implement new technology in Cameron and Potter counties. His research into brine makers was instrumental in the purchase of brine tanks at all eight stockpiles in the two counties and the outfitting of 28 trucks with tailgate tanks. Mike’s research helped to ensure the purchase of state-of-the art equipment, while being cost effective.

“Each of these individuals is extremely dedicated to the mission to provide a first-rate transportation system,” Biehler said. “They have found ways to do their jobs more efficiently and with excellent quality, despite staffing and fiscal constraints. We are so lucky and thankful to have them as members of the PennDOT team.”

The Star of Excellence Awards are presented annually to employees who represent the department’s values of service, performance and integrity. The recipients represent a variety of organizational positions, spanning from highway maintenance workers and programming specialists to communications staff and engineering supervisors.
