Structure Fire Snuffed Out At Canoe Place Inn In Port Allegany

Star Hose Stops Structure Fire At Canoe Place Inn

In this photo, Star Hose and Emporium firefighters practice on the Canoe Place Inn
last month.
The structure is scheduled to be torn down soon for a new Sheetz store.

At 10:40 PM on Wednesday, Port Allegany Dept. 3 responded to a structure fire at the Canoe Place Inn in the Boro of Port Allegany on the corner of Arnold and Main Street. Smoke was reported showing by the first responders.

UPDATE AT 11:45 PM: A representative at Station 3 reports that a small fire
of unknown origin in the Canoe Place Inn was quickly brought under control. Firefighters were thankful the fire was discovered quickly as a fire in a building that size could be disastrous to the community. The incident is under investigation.

would make a good place to have practice fire training -- it's gotta come down somehow for the new Sheetz building.

As a resident of Port Allegany I am so outraged. There have been at least two arson fires in the last few years that we know of! The house by Switzers Funeral home, the American Legion and now this. Each time the actors got off with a slap on the hand. It is time to step up and take care of our community!

How does that work where the fire dept can use an existing building to train their firefighting skills on? Do they permits or anything like that? Is it too close to other buildings for safety reasons? That is a good idea 11:26:00 PM. They are going to tear it down anyways.

They could fill the building with smoke and not use real fire ... nd train that way if too close to other buildings.
