Public Invited To Visit Star Party From 7 to 11 PM on Saturday

By Maxine Harrison

The Annual Cherry Springs Star Party, sponsored by the Astronomical Society of Harrisburg, will be held from Thursday June 10 until Sunday June 13.

This is a pre-paid, pre-registered event, but the general public is invited to visit astronomers and stay for some stargazing on Saturday June 12 from 7:00 pm until 11:00 pm.

Approximately 30 astronomers will volunteer their telescopes for the public viewing so visitors may look at the stars through several scopes that night.

Those wishing to participate should park their cars in the public parking lot located on the north side of Rt. 44, then walk across to the Astronomy Observation Field. Coming before dark will allow visitors to see all the different types of telescopes that are on the field.

The park can get quite cool at night so warm clothing should be worn or brought along as well as good footwear.

No pets are allowed, so please leave them at home!

Also, bring a flashlight and the Dark Sky Team hosts will give you a red cellophane filter to cover the lens as no white lighting is permitted on the Astronomy Field.

In the event of overcast or rain, the program will be cancelled. For further information please call the Lyman Run State Park office at (814) 435-5010.

The regular Stars-n-Parks program scheduled for that evening has been cancelled and replaced with the Public Viewing Program.
