Buchanan Flamingo'ed 7/29/2010

Buchanan Flamingo'ed 7/29/2010

Even in the waking hours, just 3 days prior to his retirement party scheduled for Sunday, Richard Buchanan did not miss a beat! Dick may have been #5 on the Flamingo recognition list but he and his wife, Mary, were the first to catch the pink birdies red handed this season!

The Coudersport Rotary Club uses the Flamingo Fundraiser, not only as a way to raise money for this year’s Local Parks Revitalization Project, but also as a means for others in the community to recognize someone that has contributed something to their lives.

Dick Buchanan, second generation owner of the Buchanan Bros. Pharmacy returned to the Coudersport Area in 1980 to join his father as a pharmacist at Smith’s Drug Store, later to be renamed Buchanan Bros. Pharmacy. Now operated by the third generation of family pharmacists, Dick has proudly left the business in the hands of his two daughters, Julie McCusker and Christie Keglovits, and his nephew Joseph Marzo.

Although the Flaminoer’s identity is generally kept anonymous by the Rotary Club Volunteers, Dick’s influence on the community and his kind heart toward his staff over the years was undoubtedly reflected by those 50 pink winged critters that flocked to Dick’s yard last week.

Best wishes and highest regards Richard!

I saw all the flamingos in their yard this morning as I was walking to work. It made me smile.

Highest regards to two highly esteemed, community-minded folks, Dick and Mary. Thank you for all you both have done for us and for our children! May this next chapter of your lives be blessed beyond measure!

Earl says:

The flamingos adorn his nice yard.
To clean up from so many birds will be hard.
And yes our friend Dick is just super.
So let's take him a birdie doo-doo scooper.

Though he's retiring he'll surely be busy.
Chasing dildines or working at the Arburetum.
His schedule would make most people dizzy.
Wherever stuff needs done, there you will meet him.

Best wishes to Dick and thanks to the entire Buchanan family for giving back so much to our community.
