Democratic Candidate For US Representative For The 5th District Coming To Coudersport

Join Michael Pipe for a New Generation of Leadership Town Hall Meeting

Coudersport, PA (PotterCountyDems.com) August 17, 2010 - On Monday, August 23, 2010 Michael Pipe, candidate for the Pennsylvania’s Fifth Congressional District will be holding an in-person town hall meeting at the Courthouse Square Gazebo on the corner of Main St. and E Second St. in Coudersport Pennsylvania from 6:30pm – 8:30pm.

This will be Mike's 12th Town Hall Meeting in Pennsylvania’s Fifth Congressional District. He will discuss and answer questions about the problems we have here in our district — unemployment, the high cost of health care, high taxes on working families, they’re problems we face not as Democrats or Republicans, but as neighbors and friends. He will be here and ready to listen.

The incumbent Congressman Glenn Thompson is the only Republican Congressman in Pennsylvania who will not be holding in-person town hall meetings this summer. Voters hoping to have their voices heard by Mr. Thompson must cough up a donation first. (Mr. Thompson will be holding three fundraisers in August.)

Michael Pipe was born and raised in Pennsylvania. Growing up in Sellersville, Michael was involved in his local community. He attended CCD at St. Agnes Church and was a little-league all-star. He was an honors student and class president at Christopher Dock High School. He fell in love with central Pennsylvania as a student at Penn State, where he earned a degree in Political Science. During his senior year, he met his fiancee, Ashley Bessoir. Michael and Ashley are building their future in Pennsylvania.

Michael believes that when people come together they can make a difference. During his freshman year, Michael helped to organize students and get out the vote in the fall of 2004. Michael became the Deputy Elections Commissioner for Voting and Publicity for the student government at Penn State. Michael was responsible for promoting record student turnout for student government elections.

Michael and Ashley work in the State College community. Michael is an assistant manager at a restaurant. They know what it’s like to live from paycheck to paycheck.

While Michael is not interested in becoming a career politician he understands people in the Pennsylvania’s Fifth District need a voice in Washington, one that understands the needs of the region. He has become dismayed as too often the needs of the region are put behind the political needs of elected officials. That is why, after discussions with family, friends, local officials and the people of the district, Michael has decided to run for office. Michael is running because he gets it and wants to make sure Washington gets it, too.

Now more than ever, we need representatives that are willing to listen. Please join us at the town hall meeting in Coudersport. We look forward to seeing you there.

Glenn Thompson has been in the Coudersport area several times this year and will be in Emporium if anyone would like to speak to him.
