New Prison Will Hold 2,000 More Pennsylvania Prisoners

ROCKVIEW - Corrections officials and local leaders say a new, medium-security prison being built in Benner Township will bring 2,000 inmates and at least 600 employees to the area.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday for the $176 million State Correctional Institution at Benner in Centre County, one of four new state prisons intended to alleviate overcrowding.

Officials say the prison will use closed-circuit cameras and electronic perimeter detection systems rather than the traditional guard towers visible at the Rockview state prison a few hundred feet away.

This is what Potter County needs to bring jobs into the area that local people could obtain. These jobs won't leave after a few years and everyone can still drink their water.
