Paul E. Shay, 81, of Barden Brook Road, Eldred, PA

ELDRED, PA - Paul E. Shay, 81, of Barden Brook Road died Monday (Aug. 16, 2010) at home following a brief illness.

Born Oct. 1, 1928, in Shippenville, he was a son of Colonel and Maude Hockman Shay.

Mr. Shay was a 1949 graduate of Eldred High School and a lifelong resident of Eldred. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Army in Germany in the Ordnance Department.

Mr. Shay had been employed for 34 years in the milling department at Clark Bros., which later became Dresser-Rand, in Olean, N.Y., until retiring in 1990.

He was a 50-year member of Eldred American Legion Post 887, a member of the Eldred Conservation Club, Steelworkers Local 4601 and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and trapper.

Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Shay of Portville, N.Y.; a brother, John "Crow" (Mary "Cad") Shay of Eldred; a sister, Betty Huff of Carey, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Timothy Shay in 1973; a brother, Colonel "June" Shay; and a sister, Ruby DeRyke.

A private memorial sevice will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville.

The family requests memorials be made to the Eldred Ambulance Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred.
