Wilbur R. Kresge, 83 of 31 Hawthorne Road, Bradford, PA--Services Saturday

Wilbur R. Kresge, 83 of 31 Hawthorne Road, Bradford, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at his residence.

He was born on August 7, 1926 in Forty Fort, PA, a son of the late Wilbur L. and Jane Smith Kresge.

On June 3, 1953 in Franklin, PA he married Jolene A. Burgert who survives.

He was a 1944 graduate of the E.L. Meyers High School, Wilkes Barre and a 1951 graduate of the Tri-State College, Angola, IN where he received his B.S. in mechanical engineering.

He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II who served in the Pacific Theatre.

He was employed by the Dresser Manufacturing Co. for a number of years. He was also employed by the McHone Industries, Olean, the former Luminite Products, Corp., Salamanca, and by the Bradford Area High School as a Vocational Placement Coordinator.

Mr. Kresge was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was an ordained Elder and Deacon. He was a sixty year member of the Bradford Lodge #749 of the Free and Accepted Masons, a fifty year member of the Coudersport Consistory, a past Monarch of the Orak Grotto, a member of the Zem Zem Shrine, a member of the McKean County Road Runners, and a member of the Sigma Mu Sigma Masonic Fraternity, Angola, IN. He was a founding member and the first president of the Bradford High School Marching Owls Booster Club, a member and past president of the YMCA Board of Directors, a founding member of the Bradford YMCA Swim Team Booster Club, a PIAA swimming official and starter, a member of the Bradford Ecumenical Home Board of Directors, a Shrine Transportation Coordinator for the CARE for Children, and a long time volunteer at the BRMC. He was the recipient of several volunteer contribution awards over the years. One of his many interests included woodworking of which he was highly skilled. He was also a devoted family man who loved spending time with his family; he especially enjoyed family vacations in Virginia Beach, VA.

Besides his wife of fifty seven years he is also survived by two sons, Steven A. (Kathy) Kresge, Bradford, Randy S. (Julie) Kresge, Fairview, PA, one daughter, Kim S. Reagan, Rochester, NY, one brother, Glenn T. (Eileen) Kresge, Harleysville, PA, three granddaughters, Rachel Kresge, Wexford, PA, Stephanie Kresge, Bradford, Laura Reagan, Rochester, NY, one grandson, David Reagan, Rochester, NY, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2010 from 12:00 PM till 1:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church at which time a Masonic Service will be conducted by the Bradford Lodge #749, the Memorial Service will immediately follow with the Rev. W. Leroy Beckes officiating. Military honors will be accorded following the memorial service.

Burial was in Franklin Cemetery, Sugarcreek, PA.

Memorial contributions in his memory can be made either to the Zem Zem Hospital Transportation Fund, 2525 West 38th St., Erie, PA 16506-4556, the McKean County CARE for Children, 20 Russell Blvd., P.O. Box 616, Bradford, or the First Presbyterian Church, 54 East Corydon St., Bradford.
