George Slotta, 93, formerly of 45 East Warren Road, Custer City, PA

George Slotta, 93, formerly of 45 East Warren Road, Custer City, passed away Thursday, September 9th, 2010 at the Sena Kean Manor.

Born May 20, 1917, in Backus, he was a son of the late John and Anna (Janov) Slotta. He attended Bradford schools.

On August 31, 1946 in Bradford, he married Helen Irene (Hart) Slotta who died on November 23, 2007.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force on Noverber 5, 1942 and served during WW II stationed in northern Italy with the B-24th Bomb Squadron and flew over 35 missions. He was awarded numerous medals including the Purple Heart, he was honorably discharged on June 3, 1945.

He was employed as a Lead man at W. R. Case Cutlery retiring in 1982 after 43 years of service. After his retirement he operated a collector's certified repair center from his home for Case Cutlery for another 21 years.

He was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, the Anthonian Men's Club, he was an original member of the Board of Directors at Pine Acres Country Club, he was an avid golfer for over 50 years and golfed in the City Beer's Golf League. He was a former member of the Bradford Moose Lodge, the Polaski Club of Olean, He was a licensed pilot and had a plane hangered at the Bradford Airport for over 45 years.

Surviving is one daughter, Susie (Keith) Anderson of Clarkdale AZ, one son, Kenneth G. (Ann) Slotta of Turtlepoint, one sister in law, Alice Hart, two brother in laws: John Hart, and Jim Hart all of Bradford, nine grandchildren: Joy (Rick) Brocious, Wendy Hervatin, Jason Slotta, Tim Slotta, Kenneth Anderson, Kirk (Michelle) McDowell, Don (Melinda) Raymo, Teresa (Todd) Miller, Wynann (Will) Raymo, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers: Mike Slotta, and John Slotta, three sisters: Mary Vantine, Ann Grimsby, and Elizabeth Slotta.

Family will be receiving friends on Sunday September 12th, from 2:00pm to 8:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. South Ave., where a prayer service will be held Monday at 10:15am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, with Father Samuel B. Slocum, pastor as Celebrant. Committal services and military honors will follow in in St. Bernard Cemetery. A Christian Wake service will be held at 5:00pm Sunday in the funeral home with Rev. Leo Gallina, pastor of St. Bernard Church.
Memorial contributions if desired may be made to Sena Kean Manor Activities Fund, or the American Cancer Society.
